Hi everyone,Going through a separation and we are forced to sell our hot tub, it is a 2008 or 2009 Jacuzzi J-470. I am unable to determine the actual year as we bought it from the original owners of the house. The tub is in what I would say is Very Good condition, no major defects or issues, we bought a brand new cover this year, and replaced the heater this year. I have tried to do some searching to determine what is a fair asking price for both us and the buyer. If anyone can provide any insight, ballpark range that would really be helpful. Based on the brand new prices, I was thinking that maybe $8k would be a fair price?Thank you in advance!

I think I would shine it up and advertise for about 4 and be prepared to get less. Leave it running and hot and let people know they can bring their suits and try it out. Let them have some privacy while they use it.

  2. IMO Master Spa cooperate is a terrible, scummy, dishonest, no integrity company. And they allow their dealers to follow suit. They seem to make an overpriced, OK better than low end tub though and it's to bad they didn't pick the high road instead. They sell a lot of them here in Minnesota and they are notorious for high electric consumption, heavy jet pressure, big pumps and noisy.

Any other options in your area?

While I love the look and the concept of your product. I wonder if the compromise in R-Value will not soon put the cost of a few new foam core covers a better value.

Roger - a couple of things to consider....as foam gets wet it actually loses its R-value resulting in loss of heat retention ability beginning day 1. The new cover design doesn't have this issue since it retains it's heat retention ability throughout its life since the foam is't exposed to water due to the polymer material that encapsulates the foam. Smartop was tested against vinyl covers and performed equally as well if not better in some cases with it's heat retention ability. To sum it up - vinyl covers depreciate beginning day 1 - Smartop's don't depreciate.

You know all was fine until you spammed the thread with this BS sales pitch. Like I said, if the tub lasts for 15 years and lets say for the sake of this you buy a new foam cover every 5 years. Thats 3 covers for 4 hundo each or 1200 dollars. That means you have about 400 bucks in electricity that you'd better save and like I said it may be a push or it may even be more expensive in the long run to own your cover.

Don't throw around BS about how your 1" of foam can insulate as good as a 5 to 3 tapered foam core cover because a 5-3 tapered cover will start getting wet on day 1. I have disposed of 7 year old foam core covers that weren't wet but were ripped and deteriorated and needed to be replaced. Not all foam core covers get wet and heavy until their life expectancy is reached so they insulate as good after 5 years as they do on day 1.

I'd really like to see the data on how your 1" of foam insulated as well as 3"

  4. Of those mentioned I would put HS, Sundance and Jacuzzi at the top with Bullfrog coming in second. Cal behind that. Viking makes a good value type tub for a lot less than 8 grand but maybe not the longevity or fit and finish of the first three. I would never consider Ecco. If you have Marquis and D1 in your area I hold them in higher regard than HS, Sundance and Jacuzzi.

  5. What are the readings of your source water right out of the tap? The last place I had the water came from the tap needed nothing but a little baking soda to get it balanced. With that I used a small amount of dichlor after each soak and shocked about every other week with dichlor. Occasionally added more baking soda to keep it balanced. Seems pretty simple and inexpensive to me. I even went as far as putting a TBLS of dichlor in a bunch of old film containers. Then bring one out for the soak.

Let us know what your water reads right now.

  6. Hello. My Mom has one of those inflatable TheraSpa hot tubs, which is perfect for her, due to it's size and low cost. Sadly, we have had to replace the heater unit twice already, and the 3rd one went bad as well. We will NOT be doing business with these people again (Esse Trading Company), since they WILL NOT warranty their heaters, and they refuse to fix the problem with their poor reliability.

I want to replace the heater with something that will last longer than a couple months. I was thinking of an electric tankless water heater, but I don't know if that is a good idea. Also was thinking of getting something like a Coates 1.5ILS hot tub heater, and doing some custom plumbing, but was advised against that option. I don't know what to do. Any ideas anyone? It would be greatly appreciated. My Mom loves her little hot tub, and wants to use it again.

I'm not sure this is the right unit for your mom or if it is such a low cost.

  7. 15 amp jet pump moving 40 gpm on low running 4 hours a day equals 60 amp hours and 9600 gallons moved. 2 amp pump running for 24 hours moving 3 gpm equals 48 amp hours and moved 12,960 gallons. Depends on the system. In order to make any calculations we have to know gpm, pump amp draw, length of filter time. Either way works fine but a 24/7 circ pump usually is a small money saver. And they have a noise advantage. And with an ozonatator the longer it is injected into the water the better it works.

  8. I had one of those vaults once. Sucked. Pretty much reached over the edge from my belly for a few hours working. Ended up getting a couple straps under it with a couple Johnson Bars and a high lift jack turned sideways and using a modified engine hoist to lift it out to dispose of it. I recommended they have the dealer install the new one. Haven't heard from them since, perfect salesmanship on that one.
