  1. Great choice on the Jacuzzi, we bought the J470 last year and really like it. Its a well made tub. I have the sand color shell and redwood skirt. The shell is textured and not very slippery. It stays very clean and looks great. I like the look of the the light color shell with the led's, but not sure abouthow slippery it would be.
  2. Hi Brian, I have the same hot tub and love it! I think you could get parts and pillows etc off of ebay or another internet dealer, but if the prices are fairly close I would use your dealer and form some kind of business relationship with him. He might be more helpful with other repairs if he knows you through his shop. There is a very good guide to spa water chemistry on here. Look in the forum section and click on hot tub water chemistry. At the top is a stick for Bromine which I follow and have had great sucess with. There is alot of good info on that forum! Congrats on a great hot tub purchase!!
  3. I think 4 or 5 people twice a week would be fairly accurate.
  4. I do have one question, I have left the circ pump alone for the first year it runs 24/7. I can program it to run less, but I am not sure if I should. The ozone runs only when the circ pump is on, I get great filtration and water quaility is good. If I only ran the circ pump say 12 hours a day during the summer would there be any advantage aside from wear and tear on the pump and electrical savings?
  5. I have read this forum for many years and found the information invaluable while choosing my first hot tub. I just wanted to give alittle back to this great forum! After many years of research I finally purchased a hot tub a year ago in August. I bought a 2010 Jacuzzi J470 brand new from the showroom floor. I looked at many tubs and really wanted a Bullfrog tub, but the price of the jacuzzi was too good to pass up. The shop selling them was getting out of hot tubs and blowing the remaining ones out at unheard of prices. I knew Jacuzzi was a top three brand and jumped on the deal. The first question that comesto your mind is...you wanted a Bullfrog tub??? I did, they have alot of well thought out features and I like to be different....the bullfrog is certainly different, right? Back to the Jacuzzi. The deal was cash and carry so I trailered it home about two hours with the options I picked up like covermate lifter, ozone generator and breaker uninstalled. There was no remote with the tub, but after hounding the shop for a couple weeks I did get the remote! I really wanted it since I could monitor the tub from the house in winter weather. Installing the ozone was easy with help from the forum and the coverlifter was also a fun install with the wife helping. The tub wired up nicely and all was ready to go. I have used the three step bromine for beginners info on the pool and spa chemistry forum. It is a sticky over there and I have had very little problem with water since the begining. I can leave the tub for 10 days with no worry on vacation. The J470 is a large tub with lots of room for 6 or more adults. We only go in with our three kids or another couple so room is always plentiful. We have the sand colored shell, it is textured and has been really easy to clean. It looks goodwith the lights, but I think the smooth light color shell looks classier, especially with the lights. The dark synthetic skirt looks great and is easy to clean. The optional covermate 3 (?) lifter works perfect and makes using the tub so easy there are no excuses. It seems to be of good quality it worked good even in minus 30 C weather. My wife and I had not wet tested any tubs and had only been in hotel tubs so we were not really prepared for the experience when we finally got in to our new tub. The smiles and " hey you have to try this seat" went on for a few days. Everyone that tried the tub got that same look of amazement and felt the same way. UNBELIEVABLE!! I can't compare to other hot tub brands, but thejets and massage are unreal in the J470. All the power you could possibly want, incredible massage and very adjustable for each seat. The air injection works perfect and makes the seat totally adjustable. I really don't know how it could be better. The lights and waterfallreally are nice and there is a foot volcano, only a couple of people find it useful. The hump on the floor has lights and jets for your feet. The jets are nice an the hump helps to keep you in your seat. It also helps to keep people's feet from touching all the time, my wife and I like the floor bubble for all those reasons. Funny/Sad sidebar, we were using the tub with another couple about a week after I installed the tub. After a few drinks I brought the remote into the tub to play around with it. I forgot the remote in the tub and it sunk to the bottom over night and never worked again. If any of you dealers have one for sale or know how to fix mine give me a pm with details! Anyway back to the tub. We used it all winter in western Canada. It was a mild winter, but still some minus 35 days. I used the tub once at about minus 30 it stayed warm and the heater kept up pretty good. The standard Jacuzzi cover is very good quality. Our tub has a curved higher end and the cover seals very well, I never noticed any leakage around the middle seam because of the higher end. My neighbors Costco tub had tons of steam coming out of the covers middle seam during the winter. My buddies dynasty tub isn't installed yet but the cover on mine is very well made compared to his. This tub is well made and efficient. I estimate about $25-$30 per month to operate. We have long cold winters so I think that is pretty reasonable. The tub is noisy when running, it can be hard to hear people outside the tub. I don't know if they are all like that or not. It is super quiet the rest of the day, the circumstances pump is perfectly quiet. Water care has been really easy. I have a great Taylor test kit and use Bromine. I can leave my tub for a 10 day vacation and not worry aboutwater chemistry. The pool and spa forum has a great bromine for beginners post, follow it and you will never have any trouble with your water...or at least it will help you if you are struggling. This tub has been trouble free and a real quality tub, in my opinion you cannot go wrong buying a Jacuzzi brand hot tub!
  6. I will shock it again until it clears up, it really isn't too bad, just dissapointed because it was so nice after the change. I thought about changing the water on a mild day in Dec/Jan, I could use a sump pump to speed up the draining of the tub. It just depends how much use it gets. Its my first year with the tub, I am not sure if we will use it that much in the winter. Time will tell.
  7. New fill, perfectly balanced, crystal clear water. Bromine system. Had lots of people over and the floater was left out of the tub for a day and a half. Water now cloudy. Shocked yesterday brought levels up to 12. Checked today and bromine was down to 3 shocked again and brought level up to 15. Will this get rid of the cloudyness or will I have to refill? my plan was to use this water until spring, it gets brutally cold here and my outside water supply is shut off until spring. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
  8. Thanks for the very clear answers to my questions. You and this board have been very helpful from the start of my hot tubbing days! The Three step bromine writeup is so easy to follow and understand, again thanks for making this part of owning a hot tub so much easier!!
  9. I use the three step bromine method and have had great success! My first fill stayed clear, clean, and odorless. Only problem I had was foam. It would go away right away when jets were shut off but was annoying when they were on. Anyway I have a Taylor 2006 test kit, I know it is for chlorine, but it was all I could get. I just did my first teasing with the kit and used the utube videos for alittle guidance WOW it really works nice and the videos really make it easy! I have new water in my tub and my tests were PH 8.0 TA 190 Ch 160. Spa holds 1500l of water when full. I tested the bromine level with n my other drop kit and it is close to 10. My questions are 1. Can I test for bromine with this kit? 2. Are there any other tests I need to do, not sure what acid demand test is for? Base demand? Cyanuric acid test? 3. I have a ozonator running 24-7 I tend to keep the bromine close to 10 have no water issues except foaming on my last fill should I try to keep the bromine lower and doesthe ozonefactor in on that answer? 4. All I am doing to the water is adding spalife Ph minus until my Ph isdown a couple of points and hope my ta will drift down with this also. Does this sound ok? Thanks for looking.
  10. That Amore Bay is a real beautiful spa! I live in Canada where prices are quite a bit higher so cannot comment on that. My wife and I went and looked at one, I had read alot about them and wanted to see one in person. The price was very high so we didn't consider it too seriously, but my wife really liked the spa. Both of us thought it would be a great alternative to a pool. I ended up with a Jacuzzi J470 and am totally happy with the purchase, we are still considering putting a pool in. It gets very cold where I live so the Jacuzzi will be a welcome addition to our winter routine!
  11. HI Mark, thanks for the heads up, I did read the label and got 35% sodium bromide. I noticed the other stuff with dichlor and a small amount of sodium bromide so at least I did that right...I shocked the spa last night and will check it later today. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it, I think when I first added the shock and got the water to register that the sanitizer was in range I was happy to keep it there and got away from the 3 step bromine plan alittle bit, lesson learned. I hope to get a good test kit while in the US next week, that will also help out alot!
  12. First my disclaimer, I have not bought a Taylor test kit yet. I am going to get one next week in the US. I am currently testing with two types of test strips and one drop based kit that tests PH and BR. Tub is new it is a Jacuzzi 470 with ozone and fill volume of 415 gal or 1571 l. Four days in and the bromine is low every morning and Ph is high. When filling I added liquid bromine to create a bank. I am still adjusting the floater and starting to get the setting closer. I have shocked the tub every day and it brings the tub up to around three on the bromine scale. Usually when I check the next day bromine is gone and I shock again. I am using Spalife chlorine free oxidizer. It contains potassium mono persulphate. I use three tablespoons to shock and it goes from Close to 0 to 3. Today I had a reading of 1 in the tub when I started so I am getting closer with the floater setting. I have also had to lower Ph every day I add 60g of spalife Ph minus which is alot, but it takes my readings from 8.2 to 7.8 I have read that airation increases Ph and my tub has plenty of that, air in the jets, ozone, waterfall, etc. Not sure how to deal with this problem. Hardness is around 250. Alkalnity started at 110- 120 and now is 70-80. Last night the tub had a strong Sanitizer smell, but not as badtoday. I am really most concerned about the Ph level always high and when I add Ph minus it also lowers ta. I was going to wait a week to shock the spa hard and bring br levels above 10 since I will then have the floater adjusted better, maybe that is the wrong thinking(I didn't want the tub smelling like Chemical Alli had just visited.) Any advice on how to handle the high Ph problem would be appreciated.
  13. Wanted to shout out to waterbear, the three step bromine method is working good for this newbie! Only two days in but everything is in range. Hardness is at 250 but I have not added anything for that, spa dealer recommeds some weekly hardness reducer to make equipment last longer, not sure if I need it or not?
  14. Treated the water last night and it was good today we used the tub tonight and WOW it is very nice!! We are thrilled!..
  15. Got the tub moved pretty easy, looks great! Heating up as I post this!!
  16. Hi, thanks for the tip on the wheels, I have wheelbarrow style, going to move it in half an hour, fingers crossed!!
  17. Hi, just finished putting the base in and ready to move and hook up my new Jacuzzi j470. I have it in my garage and am building a 4 or 6 wheeled cart tomorrow about 3 feet wide with 6 inch rubber wheels to get it over the grass and hard pack dirt. I plan on moving it equipment side down and the move is only about 60 feet, I am nervous about moving it, but have 5 guys lined up to help. Any advice on the move is appreciated! Electrician is also arriving Friday night to hook it up, I guess I will fill it up and use Waterbears 3 step bromine plan to get it ready to enjoy! I have been waiting since the early 90' s to get a tub I hope it was worth the wait...lol.
