  1. Unfortunately I cannot just order the generator on-line, as I am not the one installing it. I simply would like to know if it is a good and reliable model. I would go with a Goldine or Autopilot insteaed! What makes Goldline or autopilot better? reliability, parts available easily, major brands, proven track record for both. FWIW, Goldline is part of Hayward and Autopilot part of Horner (Aquacal heat pumps also)---both major pool product companies. As far as it goes both offer options that make them the two most sophisticated SCWGs on the market. [/quoteI am told ecomatic is the only SWG that works in cold water. Eco works down to 40f. (not that I will ever be swimming in that temp)Im spending 70k on the pool I would like to think my pool builder would not use anything but the best. He puts Ecomatic in all the pools he built. I have seen 3 pools he has done. All those pools were easily over 100k

  4. I'm getting a brand new esc36. it's in my contract. The builder has one in his own pool and he has had it for 15 years without any problem. The salt unit has not been installed yet, maybe in the next two weeks or so.
  5. You are kidding 1k. Not in NY Im sure the builder is making good money on the salt generator. To say $1000 for the unit is insane.

  16. Salt pools ARE chlorine pools. Instead of adding the chlorine manually it is generated by electrolysis of the salt added to the water. While it is an added expense initially it does significantly simplify pool maintenance when used with cartridge filters. It is a bit more work when used with backwashable filters but not much more. All in all highly recommended method of chlorination! UV is NOT a primary sanitizer and is of dubious value in an outdoor pool but can be useful in an indoor pool in conjunction with chlorine to help break down some of the more persistent combined chloramines that form in the absence of sunlight. The purpose of a sanitizer is NOT to clean the pool but to prevent pathogens from growing in the water and causing water borne illnesses. I am leaning toward salt
  17. Can anyone tell us which cleans the pool the best. Is it chlorine, salt or UV? Thanks
  18. The pool company that is going to install my gunite pool, wants to install eco-matic salt generator. Does anyone know if this a any good. He tells me his eco-matic is 15 yrs old with original cell. Also he is charging $3200
  19. We just decided to buy a gunite pool. We heard different things about how often one needs to acid wash the pool. Assuming good pool chemistry, can it last 10-15 years? How often are we re-plastering, too? Thanks
  20. I called the engineer, but has not yet paid a visit. I was also told that gunite pool would be the way to go with my sandy soil. Now my concern with gunite is how well it will hold up here in NY.
