  1. Ok I am doing it. I just had to drain my pool, again, to get rid of mustard algae due to high CYA levels. I cant take it anymore. So I am researching the AquaRite. There are three versions: 15 25 and 40 thousand gallon. My pool is 15 thousand gallons. I asked Wharehouse pools which one I should buy. I told them my pool was 15 thousand. He said if I buy anything but the 40 thousand generator the cell would almost have to work in super chlorniation mode to chlorinate my pool. And he said the cell would not last as long as it should. I dont know if he was just trying to sell the most expensive one or not. Prob so, but I dont wanna make a mistake here. The price diffrence is $680 for 15 thousand gallon, $820 for 25 thousand gallon, and $860 40 thousand gallon. These prices are from pool supply world.com Ok, what do I do? Thx Mark Hou TX
  2. Dand, I had some pretty bad mustard algae problems a few years ago. I was pulling my hair out. It would go away and then come back. Over and over and over. Well I found out the problem. I was told about CYA, Stabilizer i.e. Cynuric Acid. When it gets too high, usually above 100, the chlorine basically stops working. When it stops working thats when the Algae comes. There is alot more to it than that but basically you need to check your CYA level. If it is too high you need to drain your pool. Either halfway then fill up, or all the way, then fill up. This is the only way to get the CYA level to go down. When the chlorine starts working again you will not have any mustard algae problems again. Hope this helps Mark
  3. Ok. What I cannot figure out is if you are not supposed to connect them then why are the holes threaded?
  4. Ok long story short. My pool has one skimmer, a Hayward skimmer with 2 holes in the bottom. One hole goes to the main drain and the other hole goes straight to the pump. So the pool only pulls from the one hole in the bottom of the skimmer. What I wanna do is connect these 2 holes so the pump pulls from the main drains. I have verified through pictures of the build and I had a pool guy come out and blow air into the skimmer holes verifyinig that the main drains are plummed seperatley. Is there a way to do this? That diffuser thing does not do this 100 percent. The reason I want to do this is so I can drain my pool from the main drains and not have to rent a pump from home depot, again. THX!
  5. Here is the direct link http://shop.saltpoolinstaller.com/product....mp;productId=11 And here is their home page http://www.saltpoolinstaller.com/ THX! I am asking because the 40k SWG is only $699.99
  6. Well I am not doing it because of expensive chlorine. I am doing it because I am sick and tired of draining my pool because of high CYA, stabilizer........
  7. Ok. I am gunna go with the 40k. I was told at pool store, and on here, that I will have to keep the 15k at 100 percent output which will lower my cell life. So I am gunna spend $889 on the AquaRite 40k. Thats the lowest price I can find. Anyone know of a cheaper price?
  8. Do I get the 15k 25k or 40k? My pool is 14,500 gallons so it would seem that I would buy the 15k one. But I am not sure. I thought I read once that you are supposed to buy one size bigger? True? My pool is in ground plaster. THX!
  9. I agree with what you are saying but, I have to drain my pool every 3 to 4 months. Not 12. Right now I am sitting at 80ppm CYA. I was at 100ppm. I did a half drain and I am only down to 80ppm. I will be back up to 100ppm or more in no time. I am looking for a wy to fix this problem permanently. I do not know what that is yet. Dumping a gallon or so of LC in my pool everyday is not what I wanna do though. I may get a SWG but I am just not sure yet. Mark
  10. What I am worried about with LC is that I wont know exactly how much to add everyother day and I will add too little or too much. Also I will have to test my water virtually everyday. I have heard some bad stuff about SWG. Mainly that the cells stop working in the winter so you have to switch to tabs. And that the cells go out every 5 years or so and very expensive to replace. I guess what I am gunna do is just drain about 3 to 4 inches from my pool once a month and not worry anymore what the CYA level is at. This is probably the easiest and cheapest solution. Richard I really do appreciate all your help. You should get a salary for what you do on here! Mark
  11. Ugh...........I am just gunna fill it with dirt.
  12. I went to pool store today, Warehouse Pools. this is what I was told about Bromine: It is twice as expensive as Chlorine But you use half the amount as Chlorine so the price equals out I have to make sure I have zero chlorine before I switch. I can keep my chlorinator on 1/2 instead of 1 or 2 like chlorine tabs Is this something I should consider? Long story short I have to drain my pool every 3-4 months because my CYA goes to 100 or above. I do not have an over flow protection so water is not being expelled on a regular basis and I have a cartridge filter, not DE so it dosnt get backwashed. 14,000 gallons in ground. Should I switch? Thx Mark
  13. Rob, how are you adding the LC? With an automation system or by hand everyday? Is it easy to mess up and add too much LC? I dont wanna gas my kids one day. Thx Mark
  14. Richard thx ALOT for all your help. I have been fighting this CYA build up for years. Its driving me insane. I know I asked this before but can you give me a basic answer on this (i am an idiot when it comes to pool chemistry) If I add LC myself cant I just maintain a proper level of stabilizer (by adding it) and not have to add the LC every day? If I dont buy The Liquidator that is. THX! Mark
  15. Ok I think I starting to get it. I am gunna give LC a try and buy The Liquidator. Does anyone know where I can actually buy one?
  16. Richard I am still a little confused. If I switch to Liquid Chlorine cant I just add stabilizer and not have to add LC every day or everyother day? Adding LC everyday is a bit of a turn off but so is draining my pool every 4 months (Ijust got done filling it backup). I think I may know why I have this problem so often. I do not have one of those auto drains. What I mean is I do not have an overflow protection. So my pool does not automatically expel water when it gets too high. I have to open a valve and the excess gets pumped from the skimmer out a water hose coming from the pump area that I buried going out my back fence. So, the top level of excess water (whcih contains the highest concentration of CYA I think) does not get expelled very often. I may take your recommendation and pump 2 or 3 inches off the top once a month, unless I switch to LC. Thx for your help! Mark
  17. Ok I have been gone for a while. I appreciate all of the replies. I am a little confused though. I need to switch to liquid chlorine? Oh, as I type this I am draining my pool again.
  18. My pool is about 14,000 gallons. It is about 9 years old. I am having a problem with Cyanuric acid. About every 4-5 months my Cyanuric acid level goes above 100 and it locks my chlorine in at either zero or off the charts high. At that point I am told my chlorine no longer does its job. I am also told at that point I have no other choice but to drain/dillute my pool. I have drained my pool apprx 10-15 times now. I even bought my own sump pump. There has got to be a reason this keeps happening yet no pool store can tell me why its happening. I have a 3" chlorine feeder that I keep on 2 and a cartridge filter. I clean it regularly and do not have an algae problem or any other problem accept this dang acid level. I even switched to sodium based shock but that did not help. I also tried only putting 2 3" tabs in the feeder at a time. No help. Does anyone have any idea of how I can fix this? It is really getting annoying. I am ready to fill the pool in with dirt. Thx Mark Hou TX
