Ok I am doing it. I just had to drain my pool, again, to get rid of mustard algae due to high CYA levels. I cant take it anymore. So I am researching the AquaRite. There are three versions: 15 25 and 40 thousand gallon. My pool is 15 thousand gallons. I asked Wharehouse pools which one I should buy. I told them my pool was 15 thousand. He said if I buy anything but the 40 thousand generator the cell would almost have to work in super chlorniation mode to chlorinate my pool. And he said the cell would not last as long as it should. I dont know if he was just trying to sell the most expensive one or not. Prob so, but I dont wanna make a mistake here. The price diffrence is $680 for 15 thousand gallon, $820 for 25 thousand gallon, and $860 40 thousand gallon. These prices are from pool supply world.com Ok, what do I do? Thx Mark Hou TX

Dand, I had some pretty bad mustard algae problems a few years ago. I was pulling my hair out. It would go away and then come back. Over and over and over. Well I found out the problem. I was told about CYA, Stabilizer i.e. Cynuric Acid. When it gets too high, usually above 100, the chlorine basically stops working. When it stops working thats when the Algae comes. There is alot more to it than that but basically you need to check your CYA level. If it is too high you need to drain your pool. Either halfway then fill up, or all the way, then fill up. This is the only way to get the CYA level to go down. When the chlorine starts working again you will not have any mustard algae problems again. Hope this helps Mark

Making The Main Drain Suck Versus The Skimmer
mark6437 replied to mark6437's topic in All Swimming Pools Types
Ok. What I cannot figure out is if you are not supposed to connect them then why are the holes threaded? -
Ok long story short. My pool has one skimmer, a Hayward skimmer with 2 holes in the bottom. One hole goes to the main drain and the other hole goes straight to the pump. So the pool only pulls from the one hole in the bottom of the skimmer. What I wanna do is connect these 2 holes so the pump pulls from the main drains. I have verified through pictures of the build and I had a pool guy come out and blow air into the skimmer holes verifyinig that the main drains are plummed seperatley. Is there a way to do this? That diffuser thing does not do this 100 percent. The reason I want to do this is so I can drain my pool from the main drains and not have to rent a pump from home depot, again. THX!

About To Buy Aqua Rite Swg. Plz Help With Model To Buy
mark6437 replied to mark6437's topic in All Swimming Pools Types
Ok. I am gunna go with the 40k. I was told at pool store, and on here, that I will have to keep the 15k at 100 percent output which will lower my cell life. So I am gunna spend $889 on the AquaRite 40k. Thats the lowest price I can find. Anyone know of a cheaper price? -
I agree with what you are saying but, I have to drain my pool every 3 to 4 months. Not 12. Right now I am sitting at 80ppm CYA. I was at 100ppm. I did a half drain and I am only down to 80ppm. I will be back up to 100ppm or more in no time. I am looking for a wy to fix this problem permanently. I do not know what that is yet. Dumping a gallon or so of LC in my pool everyday is not what I wanna do though. I may get a SWG but I am just not sure yet. Mark

Switch To Bromine To Solve Cya Problem?
mark6437 replied to mark6437's topic in All Swimming Pools Types
What I am worried about with LC is that I wont know exactly how much to add everyother day and I will add too little or too much. Also I will have to test my water virtually everyday. I have heard some bad stuff about SWG. Mainly that the cells stop working in the winter so you have to switch to tabs. And that the cells go out every 5 years or so and very expensive to replace. I guess what I am gunna do is just drain about 3 to 4 inches from my pool once a month and not worry anymore what the CYA level is at. This is probably the easiest and cheapest solution. Richard I really do appreciate all your help. You should get a salary for what you do on here! Mark -
Switch To Bromine To Solve Cya Problem?
mark6437 replied to mark6437's topic in All Swimming Pools Types
Ugh...........I am just gunna fill it with dirt. -
I went to pool store today, Warehouse Pools. this is what I was told about Bromine: It is twice as expensive as Chlorine But you use half the amount as Chlorine so the price equals out I have to make sure I have zero chlorine before I switch. I can keep my chlorinator on 1/2 instead of 1 or 2 like chlorine tabs Is this something I should consider? Long story short I have to drain my pool every 3-4 months because my CYA goes to 100 or above. I do not have an over flow protection so water is not being expelled on a regular basis and I have a cartridge filter, not DE so it dosnt get backwashed. 14,000 gallons in ground. Should I switch? Thx Mark

Rob, how are you adding the LC? With an automation system or by hand everyday? Is it easy to mess up and add too much LC? I dont wanna gas my kids one day. Thx Mark
-
Richard thx ALOT for all your help. I have been fighting this CYA build up for years. Its driving me insane. I know I asked this before but can you give me a basic answer on this (i am an idiot when it comes to pool chemistry) If I add LC myself cant I just maintain a proper level of stabilizer (by adding it) and not have to add the LC every day? If I dont buy The Liquidator that is. THX! Mark

Ok I think I starting to get it. I am gunna give LC a try and buy The Liquidator. Does anyone know where I can actually buy one?
