  1. I have a Masterspa Crosstrainer that I like so far, I've had it just over a year. If you search you may find some writeups I did. Basicly, I got lucky, I found this forum after I bought it and I have to say it did not make me comfortable, but my dealer has been great to work with and so far so good. But it is a huge chunk of change so get a dealer you feel will work for you. I would wet-test a jet version before buying.
  2. Hope it's OK if I jump in and answer some questions on my cover I just noticed that I can hear some water move inside my cover when I flip it open. maybe along the bottom? I have a swim spa so it is a double cover; 4 sections. One year old this half stays flat during use, I flip it and push it over the propulsion area. Duh I think Shaamus answered my question: take it of and stand it up dummy Now that I'm writing this and really thinking about it, Should I try unzipping it and standing it up? This one section got a small rip on the side gusset where the two halves meet in the center of the Spa when it hit the house last Christmas morning. We had a sudden gust that picked up all 4 sections and flipped them off.... it sounded like Santa tried to land on the new tub and slid off. I keep meaning to put some "Goop" on it but only think of it when I see it while I'm swimming.
  3. You are correct. BUT... Yes, I have admitted before, we did not do our homework when we bought this, which is unusual for us. But I really wanted one and the wife said yes, so I jump without a backup chute. The dealer has a another associated business and has been around since the 20's and have a name to protect. We are happy so far, except for the heating cost. I looked in one end when we hooked up the electrical, it does have lots of foam, inside, but I hope to open all sides up this summer or figure something out
  4. Welcome Kittycat, 10K is a good deal if the tub is in good shape, but they are big and awkward and moving them could be tough. I just posted yesterday on the "20' swimtub" thread and gave some thoughts on the H2X cross trainer (the 14'7'' tub) A few things come to mind: 1) check out your local dealer, at least see how long they have been in business. (I have had good luck with a dealer in the Boston area, also Merrimack NH). 2) moving it requires a large flatbed towtruck, will the current owner let you on the yard or do you have to lift it. 3) I would really want to see it running and check all the jets (they seem a little flimsy). Was it running all winter, if not I'd want it inspected by a Technician. There are a lot of nooks and cranny's water can hide in the tub and plumbing. I cleaned my tub last week and took one of the lower grates off the swim propulsion end and there is a 8" trough that water will not drain out of and I would not like to think of it freezing in there. By the way I suggest taking that grate off and running a shop vac in there to get out crap left from manufacturing. I sprayed the Propeller cavity with a hose and sucked it out with a shop vac .... repeat 7 times Overall, I'm happy with the tub, but I'm not a tri-athlete and under 6'. Good luck with your search Let me add, that I did not know of Masterspa's rep when I bought it, but I used the dealer for my deck and installation and have benn happy with them, I also know that there is a warranty and I can be a company's worst nightmare if I'm not happy with service.
  5. If you are looking for something to "Swim" in and not have any seats or jets you may want to look at Swim-ex (Fall River MA) or Endless pool. I live near Boston and installed a MasterSpa H2X crosstrainer last November. I will say we got sticker SHOCK, closer to $30K. So far I'm happy with the purchase; the Dealer has been great (got lucky on that), I use it 3 - 4 times a week, but I'm busy right now. We use it to swim and to relax in. I will say this model is 8x15 and I would want longer if I was taller (5.9) or wanted to swim very hard; I like the speed options I have and it is a heck of a work out. Something to keep in mind in the Boston area is heating the thing. We had a cold winter and I had 3 months that the tub used 1000KW at 101 (or so), Better from April on. I also had never heard of the brands you mentioned and they sound like Kits; nothing wrong with that, but think about insulation. You are doing what I didn't do in finding this forum and asking questions BEFORE buying. MasterSpa does not have a good rep with many on this board and maybe I would have looked at other options. So I will be taking the panels off and looking into the insulation this summer. Good luck on your hunt
  6. OK, it sucks to have to pay someone full price, but at least you can have piece of mind that insurance will cover you if the house burns down or your neighbor is electrocuted. I went with someone recommended by my dealer, not the cheapest; but they worked together and he understood the bonding issue that was raised in another post.
  7. I'm not an electrician (much to my grandfather's shagrin). On our spa which is similar setup to yours, one side deck, pad same as the tub and landscaping; they buried a bare copper wire around the tub about a foot or less from the slab. Sorry can't help on the how, for sure, but the inspector did ask me about it. Not sure if it works but I'm dripping in my livingroom on a Friday evening waiting for dinner before heading out for round two..... and I'm still alive. I have to say "I love my swim-spa".
  8. Hi, I have had an H2X Crosstrainer from Masterspa for 3 months. So far we like it, a little expensive to run, but it is out side in MA (I'll be looking at insulation once the snow piles go). The Crosstrainer is 14'7" X 8,' which has better for me than the 17'+ that most swim spa's are. I know you wanted to go smaller than that. I looked at Masterspa's smaller (and brand new) model and did not like that the swim propulsion is 4 Jets instead of the propeller used in the larger models. I would suggest wet testing whatever you go with. I tried the 17' model and liked it, the 14' is a little tighter to swim in; I'm only 5'8" and I fit fine, but not sure how well someone over 6' will fit for extended use.
  9. OK, the first electric bill arrived My usage was doubled from last December, up another 1000KW. I saw tracks in the snow to the meter so I think they wanted to double check the electronic read. This included startup around Dec 4th when it had to bring 2000 gallons from 45 to 102 degrees which took about a day and a half. Also I just discovered the Filter was set to 4hr twice a day; I dropped that to 2hrs since it is not getting heavy use right now. The temp is set for 98, I bump it up on weekends for soaking. So we will see. We are both really enjoying it though, and that's what it is all about. Just have to make day trips for skiing this year
  10. Which model do you have, it is the original? I've had my H2X crosstrainer running for just a month and have not really used the swim current enough yet. I'm just too out of shape The current has seemed reasonably steady, but I mostly use it in the 3 to 4 range for any length of time. I used to swim a lot and my mechanics are OK, I'm just a sprinter ... and an old sprinter Just thinking here: is the water velocity changing or is location of the main current stream changing? Not sure if that makes sence, but I have noticed that the "sweet spot" may move forward or backward a bit. I had wet tested the 17" model (newer with 2 seats) . I have the 14'7" crosstrainer and do notice a differance with turbulance between the too. I know they have different shapes as they have re-designed it.
  11. LOL ... or Dancer gets knocked on the head and my horse ends up as a stand-in: For the Spa, I'm assuming as I get my wind built up and start swimming more I will drop the temp, but right now it is a novelty that we are enjoying.
  12. So far I think I did get lucky as far as the dealer goes, everyone there has been good to work with. They also built the deck which I am very happy with. If I'm not expecting company I'm setting the temp around 97 -99 so far that seems ok to hop in and swim for a few minutes and take a break and swim again. I hope to lower that as the temps go up and so does my ability to swim longer. If I think it will just be a soaking session I set for about 101. This weekend I noticed the filter was running 4 hour sessions so I dropped that back to 2 hours this morning. The only problem was my doing. I had not clipped it shut and at 5 AM Christmas we were awoken to a huge thump against the house. My first thought was *$&%^ Santa just ran into the Chimminy we just had re-done and made taller. No it was both covers being lifted right off the tub and tossed against the house.
  13. OK , I guess it’s time for a formal introduction since I have been Lurking since August I found this forum after I put a deposit on a new Swim spa… duh I know, how silly of me . So I was some what concerned when I read the overall opinion of MasterSpa on this site; well the deal was done so hope for the best. This was late August, so time to remove the old deck and do some much needed repair of rot in the sill, wall and door jam. Construction stated in late October on the pad and new deck, the H2X Crosstrainer arrived in mid November, but my wife was away on an extended business trip and I was going to meet her for Thanksgiving so we put off set up. Well the tub has been up and running over 3 weeks now and so far, first impressions are good (of course I have not seen an electric bill yet). I was happy to see all the insulation on the inside while we were setting it up. The tub and all tubes are coated in spray foam and the panels have a foil lined rigid insulation. With the help of this forum and the Dealer I have not had a water calamity yet and seems to be going ok. Use has been limited due to weather and time but I am enjoying the swim part of this spa, it is a heck of a work out. The seats and jets are also nice just to relax and enjoy the night and company of friends. These past few days have been the first real test and it passed; even my opinionated friends who are now happy they will not come home to me in their Hot-tub anymore. This is an outdoor setup in Massachusetts, the spa is 14’7” x 8’
  14. I'd love to see a picture of these 'robes'. Could be fun project...... Sorry it took me a bit to get 3 of the robes together for a photo 'op not sure how to post on this forum but here goes. Each robe takes 3 towels with some leftover. we split one down the middle for the 2 front pieces and another for the back then one for the arms. These have worked well and are 4 years old, one was blown apart by hard use and big sholders. Now we need to make some for our new tub
  15. When my friends got a new tub my wife and I made 6 robes for them out of Beach towels. It took 3 towels per robe, so if you use a large good quality towel it is not cheap. But they are unique We mix and matched patterns. Now 4 years later and we just got a new swim spa and fired it up this weekend. My friend caught me walking out of her house with "My" robe and asked where I was going I said it was just until I conne.... talked my wife into making ones for us. Nope, I didn't make it to the car.
  16. Thank you for your update. I've been lurking on the site for a few months, just a few days after I had bought a MasterSpa H2X crosstrainer. need less to say I was having a lot of mis-givings after reading negitive post about Masterspa (I had not found this one until today). The Tub arrived last week and is ready to go, but I will be out of town for 2 weeks so I'm holding off filling it up, yes the dealer winterized it for me. Once things are up and running, I'll do a formal intro and than then hit the Chemistry forum with lots of questions. I will say I was pleasently surprised with the insulation on the inside of the spa
