  1. I respectfully disagree. To me, there seems to be much more research suggesting Microban is effective than not. Really??? Anything relatively current and from independent, peer reviewed, scientific sources? Or just from the manufacturer and from those that use it in their products? Microbiology Testing All products engineered with Microban® technology undergo testing to validate the effectiveness of the product as required by the EPA, which governs the usage of antimicrobial products. All products are tested using approved industry standard testing methods. Bacteria Results Lucite samples were evaluated using the Kirby Bauer test method to evaluate the effectiveness against bacteria that can cause stains and odors on the acrylic surface. The samples below were inoculated with bacteria and then photographed after 24 hours according to test protocol (photographs were altered to change white acrylic background to blue for better visual reference of bacteria colonies). The sample on the left was untreated and shows significant contamination. The sample on the right was manufactured with built-in Microban® protection and shows virtually no growth on or around the sample. You can read more here: http://www.modernplastics.com/oct09/expertscorner.html?src=oct09-whatismicroban Also read this: Steps have already been taken towards this vision of a germ-free future. Sainsbury and Marks & Spencer are both planning to sell products such as chopping boards, dishcloths and towel mats impregnated with Microban, which kills 99 per cent of bacteria, including those implicated in food poisoning. The active ingredient, Triclosan, can be bonded into synthetic fibres during manufacture, and its antibacterial properties are constantly replenished (even after washing) as its molecules rise to the surface. Developed in the United States (of course), Microban can also be used in toys and could in future beincorporated into kitchen surfaces, floors and cupboards. Tests have shown that when a Microban chopping board was infected with E coli 157 (the one associated with minced beef), the number of bacteria fell over 24 hours from 100,000 to 50. On an untreated board they rose to 10 billion. You can see more from this article here: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/health-the-truth-about---killing-germs-1262498.html I dont think that Microban is the end all be all, but I do think that it cant hurt any, and can only help.
  2. I actually have heard what the OP and his tech is saying as well. I did some training last year with a compay calle Pristivia. The make a special kind of salt for swimming pool salt systems. Anyways, to sell their salt, they require the dealers to take a training on salt systems and salt in gerenral. I dont remember the exact reason, but it said in there training to specifically not to use pH decreaser in conjuction with salt walter. If I recall correctly, it had to do with mabye sulfates in the pH decreaser being hard on the salt cells. So, ever since then, I have never recommened pH decreaser with salt cells. I will do some looking back on notes to see if I can find the exact reason why Pristivia said that. One other thing of note, I also noticed that in the Pentail Intelili Chlor salt cell owners manual, it specifically says to use Muriatic acid to lower pH and not pH decreaser. Ok, last note, when back to Pristivas website, and here is what it said in regards to pH decreaser: "When it comes to pH reducers, current providers such as Mineral Springs Renewal® add sulfates which can create some very problematic scale."
  3. No adusting to the rings should be required. You can try to tighten the screws, but it might be hard getting the jets back out. The snap in kind are much better jet for longevity reasons, as there are no tabs to break like the old ones did. There are no gaskets needed. It just sounds like maybe some of the jets you dont have in all the way just right. You may get into the tub and turn some on and off over and over again, and sometimes that will work them into place better to get the flow better.
  4. It is a good point, but if is still showing the four dashes on the spa topside without the ipad connected, then its probably what we mentioned above. Double check the ipad to make sure it isnt updating, or shut the ipad off and check the spa topside again. If the breaker was shut off while the spa was updating its software, that might have hurt the processor board as well. That was a good thing to check by Spawn though, so good call by Spawn!
  5. Sorry to hear that. Call the factory and let them know and maybe they can make a call to your dealer to help get assistance promptly. I went back and did some checking, the four dashes means that the processor board is damaged, and most likely needs replaced. It should be a very easy quick fix for the spa tech though once they get there. I would call the factory and talk to one of the guys above and they should be able to help get you fixed up.
  6. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I would try reseting the breaker, but I am sure you did that already. If that doesnt work, or if you want to anyways, I would call Arctic Spas and talk to Scott or Shane in their warranty deparrtment- 1-800-309-1744. I assume you have called your dealer, but if not, call them too. I think you are correct in your thinking with the intercace card. That may need to be replaced on the Global pack, but I could be wrong. Scott or Shane would know though.
  7. Do you know how old your spa is? Do you know if you have the Eco Pack from Arctic Spas or the Gecko pack from Gecko. It will vary depending upon how old the spa is and what pack you have in the spa. To get into low level programming, you hold the filter key down for 20 seconds. If you have a older spa with the Gecko controls, the temp read out will flip after five minutes, but keep holding it down after that. Once you get into low level settings, it will probably say BL, with a number. Keep hitting the filter button until you see FC0. When you see FC0, hit the up arrow button to get it to say FC1. Then hit the filter button again, and the software will reset, and this will allow the spa to filter if the spa is more than two degrees above set point. If the spa is new within the last two years and you have the Eco pack, you still want to hold down the filter key for 20 seconds. First it will say SEtt. Then it will say PN and a number. Example PN2. Keep toggling through with the filter button until you see it say FS1. Hit the down arrow to change it to FS0. Then it will allow the spa to filter if the temp gets above two degrees of set point. Then keep toggling through until the software will reset and you will be good to go. Hope that helps.
  8. Yes, your spa can most definetly be upgraded to the new Onzen version. The new versions how been very good, and we have had little to no issues with them. Sorry for your troubles, but Arctic Spas will get you fixed. I would start with your dealer, and tell them you want the newest version on Onzen instaleld on your tub. If you dont have any luck, then call Arctic Spas at 1-800-309-1744, and they will help.
  9. Hi Matt, Congrats on the great spa. A Tundra Epic, hard to beat that!! It sounds like maybe for have a Flex Cabinet on your spa? If you do, the drain is located in one of the four corners of the Forever Floor. You put the drain stem with the cap and all all the way out about 3-4 inches. This allows you to then unscrew the cap, and hook up a garden hose, and then push it back in about a inch, and the spa will start draining. I hope that all made sense. If you have the cedar cabinet, then the drain cap should be obvious on the outside of the spa with the black ring. Just hook a garden hose to hit, and loosen the black outer ring(left loosey, righty tighty), and it will drain from there. Good luck, and enjoy your new Epic Tundra!
  10. IMO Arctic is right in line with the other brands that you mentioned. The incident you bring up was not a manufacturing issue, but rather a bad dealer issue. That could be said for any brand out there. And it wasnt Arctic that removed the thread. It was the forum admins that removed the thread. There was a Hot Spring thead removed on the same day at the same time by the admins as well. That was also in regards to a dealer issue, and not the manufacturer. IMO, buying from a good dealer is as important if not more important than the brand of spa that you purchase. All spas mentioned in this thread are all great top of the line spas imo.
  11. I would take a look at Arctic Spas. They sell several without any loungers. The Tundra or the Summit would be two I would look at. With your families heigth, I think you would really like the Tundra. It has some nice deep wide seats for taller people. You would have six jetting choices to chose from, and the entertainment extras are all options. You dont have to get them if you dont want to. Do your research on your local dealers. I know the Arctic Spa dealers in Colorado, and they are very good. Good luck in your search for the perfect spa.
  12. Well I am not completely familiar with your exact setup, so naturally example one would be the easiest, but that obviously wont be always feasible for you. But, that should work most of the time at least. I wouldn't recommend your example two as two hours of filtration a day inst very much, especially if you are using the spa very much at all. For your example three, I have no idea how you would do that. You might check with your dealer to see if that is even possible with the timer. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but that is one thing that I like about the new Ecopaks with Arctic Spas and their new power management systems. You can tell the spa exactly when you want it to filter and heat based on your peak rates. It is a really cool new feature. I know it doesn't help you, but your question reminded me of this new feature that might be able to help out others like you in the future. Here is some more info on it for those that care to know more: Power Management System
  13. small filter with a "sock" above it ? humm sounds like a rip off from the JACUZZI J-400 line.looks like the wannabe's are still following a leader, would be nice to see some one come up with a original idea and not copy someone else's hard work and efforts Not really, but you know as well as I do that this is a copy cat industry. Arctic Spas was the first to have a app to control your spa wirelessly and stream music via bluetooth last year before any other spas, and now this year there are other spas doing the same. It seems to happen in just about all products these days, and not just hot tubs.
  14. Well I am here to help in any way that I can, so feel free to ask any questions. Sorry you haven't got much help, but that is why I am here. You can also message me at any time. Do your know spa serial number. If you do, message me your serial number and I should be able to look up what is factory installed on it. Chances are if you do not have the gray weir, then it doesn't have the Peak two. On Peak 2, one of the weirs has a gray lid/cap, and the other has a black lid/cap.Here is a picture of what the gray weir would look like: If they are both all black, then chances are you dont have peak 2. The easy way to tell if you have Peak 2 is that there would be a circulation pump installed on it. That is a very small circulation pump installed on the spa for the ozone, in addition to the primary pumps. But, if you cant figure it out, see if you can find your serial number and I will try looking it up for you. The serial number is listed on the outside of the spa on a small metal plate.
  15. Hi Au176, Does your spa have Peak Ozone 2 with the Onzen? If so, you cant use the standard filter on both sides. You would want to use it how you have it currently. With the Peak 2, it comes with the circulation pump, and you want to use the compact pleated filter with the filter rescue bag. Make sure if you do have the circulation pump, you put the compact pleated filter and the filter rescue bag on the side with the gray weir. But, if you do NOT have Peak 2, then yes, you can use any combination of filters that you desire. The rescue bag does a good job of filtering and catching bigger particles and debris before it gets to your filter. I still recommend the compact pleated with the rescue bag as they seem to work well together, but that is totally up to you. As far as cleaning, don't use any detergents or soap ever in cleaning filters or the spa for that matter. You can use the dishwasher, but I don't like doing that. Your dealer should sell spa filter cleaner, and that it what you would want to use. The rescue bag you just rinse out under the sink, and replace about every 4-6 months, depending upon usage.
  16. That is good to hear Pete, and thanks for sharing! Glad to hear that the new Arctic dealer is providing good service to existing Actic customers!
  17. Lots of companies use Rising Dragon parts in their spas. Arctic may use more than some, but many spa manufactures now use the RD jets, lights, suction fittings, etc. The Rising Dragon Jets are very good jets. They don't pop out, and feel quite nice when soaking compared to the straight shooting directional jets. Just my .02 cents.
  18. If the heater stuck on due to a relay it would either fry the element or the hi limit depending on where it was placed, the plug overheats due to an inadequete connection for a 5.5 kw element, eliminating the plug will solve the problem, I used to do that with the old Jacuzzi "Blue Panel" packs. Waiting six weeks for a part is nuts, it only takes a cargo ship 3 weeks to cross the Pacific, what is their excuse? At this point it isn't quite clear on what's holding it up. Customs? Arctic dragging their feet? Who knows at this point. In the dealers defense they just recently aquired selling the Arctic line. They do not have an inventory of parts yet. My dealer that I purchased from no longer carries Arctic. Please contact the Arctic Spas Technical support team. They are very knowledgeable and would love to get your spa running properly. Contact: Shane S. 1-800-309-1744 or 780-789-2626 ext. 322 You can also contact him by email Shane@goarctic.com
  19. I second what aquatechservice recommends. I am not a service tech but I am dealing with the same problem...melted plug, black burn marks inside spa pack. My tub is still under warranty. The service guy told me that Arctic recommends the same thing, to bypass the plug and hook directly into the spa pack board. They told me the reason why this happened is that the heater relay failed and current was still being supplied to the heater and overheated the plug even though the heater wasn't "on" supplying heat to the water. Not sure about that but that's what they told me. Now my problem is that I've been waiting a 1 1/2 months so far for the new relay to come in from Arctic. Arctic has been wiring their heaters directly to the spa packs for the last two years now.
  20. Great news from the webmaster!! It seems to be under control much much better now!
  21. sadly, I don't visit much anymore, this forum has been destroyed by spam. It's been that way for a few months now and seems to be getting worse. Last time I commented in a thread like this, it was deleted. Several of us have volunteered to be moderators, I can delete spam with the best of them, but those permissions are held tightly by a small few. DK117 I am the same way. This spam is completely out of control. There are currently over 70 spam threads, just on the first page. There is way more spam than hot tub threads. It's a shame to as this forum used to be a very good place to visit for good hot tub information, but not anymore. It's just a matter of time I bet, and this will be shut down because of the spam!
  22. Disagree. D1 builds a very fine spa, and are highly regarded by most in the industry. Definitely worth considering for sure!
  23. It does say that in the thread. But if you would actually READ the thread, you can see that Arctic hasn't been talked about other than the first few posts. Your post had nothing to do with anything that was being talked about what so ever. A completely irrelevant, worthless thread and jab at Arctic that was unnecessary. There are lots of untruths in there that are just your opinion. Why don't you quit wasting all of our time!
  24. Well, good to see you clearly have a motive Spa gawd. Not sure where that all came from. Arctic has barely even been talked about in this thread, with the last it being mentioned on April 10th. Then you just come out of no where, with nothing to add but a bunch of bs opinions about Arctic, with half of that not being true? Get lost man. At least find a different thread to hijack that is actually talking about Arctic.
