  1. Hey John, How did you manage to break that out????? Would love to figure out what my D1 Serena Bay is costing me to run. Just got it going on Oct 3. Of course we used it 'excessively' the first month, since we got our 'NEW TOY'. We were soaking twice a day, sometimes more on the weekends Now I am in at least once per day and 2x on sat, sun with the kids hoppin in! They have no time during the week with school and activities!!! Do you think it is still necessary to run filtration cycle every 12 hours??? I have only been running 1 cycle every 24 hours because of the high usage. Is that even necessary if we are soaking at least once per day..... occaisonally 2x????? I think usage will be the largest variation in elec bill since juice is getting used when those pumps are running. Am I correct is my assumption??? The good thing is that when I am in every night I only run 1 PUMP. My wife is in every other night .... we run 2 pumps. On the weekends all 3 pumps are running 2x on sat and sun Question: Should I not even run the filtration cycle , or do I have to run at least 1 per day???? Thanks , Paul
  2. Hey SLEEP!!! Congrats on a GREAT CHOICE!! I have an '03 D1 Serena Bay and I'm lovin it! Bought it last month and never questioned my decision to purchase a pre-owned tub for a second. D1 makes a quality product.....I've been very impressed. oh..10:30 time for a SOAK HAPPY TUBBIN!!!!! Paul
  3. HEY TINY!! I can't answer that question, but it sounds like a question for CHEM GEEK!! LOL He really knows his water chemistry!! I took his advice and switched over to 4oz of bleach once per day and my water has been great! My CYA levels were getting kinda high with the dichlor, which would eventually make the dichlo less effective, as he explained in a previous post. Not to mention the bleach will be MUCH CHEAPER!!! I also use the N2 and MPS shock once or twice per week depending on usage. The Dichlor I was using was 99% by SpaGuard. I didn't know there was another option! Our weather has turned to FALL temps finally!!! 60 days/ 40eve. Starting to really enjoy those soaks even more!!! BTW... are you being affected by the fires??? How far away are you?? Let me know how you make out! Paul
  4. Homerandpooh, I recently purchased a pre-owned Serena Bay by Dimension One and absolutely LOVE it!!!! If you have a Dimension One dealer near you make sure you check out some of their spas in the Bay series and Reflection series. You may really like the Nautilus Chairman or Californian (Reflect series). Nautilus has a foot massage , but no lounger. Also check out the Serena Bay and Lotus Bay in the Bay Series. They are a high quality innovative company that stands behind their products. Always remember the higher end tubs have higher margins....more room for negotiation. You would be very surprised at the amount many tubs are marked up! They are worse than cars because they do not sell in high volume so dealers need the higher margins to stay alive. I don't know how I got along without a spa for so long. I sleep so much better after a nice evening soak under the stars. It's a GREAT way to end your day!!! Anyway good luck with your search!! Paul
  5. Using Trichlor or Dichlor exclusively, however, will lead to a buildup of Cyanuric Acid (CYA) which makes chlorine less effective so after 1-2 weeks of Dichlor usage one can switch to unscented bleach to keep disinfection levels higher (mostly to kill the bacteria that causes hot tub itch, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Most people don't get hot tub itch even though the bacteria is present so the risk is low, but 4 users on this forum got an itch after 1-2 months of Dichlor-only use (one of them, who was diagnosed by a doctor with hot tub lung, tried my method of Dichlor for 1-2 weeks and then bleach with success, the other still got an itch though was not diagnosed by a doctor, and the other two never responded back so I don't know). Richard HEY RICH!! I have had my D1 Serena Bay running since Oct 3rd. I purchased used. Recently I have been reading many threads on water chemistry. In my recent test I noticed my ph( 6.2) and Alk (40ppm) dropped since I added my Nature2 mineral cartridge. Is that typical? I made adj ..ph up & alk up to bring my levels to OK range. ( 7.4-7.8 ph and 80-100ppm alk ). I didn't realize the alk up would also raise the ph otherwise I would have done that first. Anyway I also noticed on my test strips that the STABILIZER level was at 100ppm. I am assuming this is the CYA level?? After reading some of your posts, I am thinking of switching to unscented bleach for my sanitizer to stop my CYA levels from climbing to higher levels that make the chlorine less effective. How do I know how much unscented bleach to add for 500 gal D1 with ozinator and nature2 min cartridge? Will I still have to put it in daily?? 1-2 soaks per day 20-30 min each. THANK you for your help in advance!! Paul
  6. Tiny, Love the pics of your new tub and site prep. LOOKS GREAT!!!! Nice job on the Paver walkway!!!!!!! I just recently got my pre-owned Dimension One Serena Bay up and running and am enjoying morning (occasional) and eve soaks...havent missed one yet!!! I have a link in one of my posts with a slideshow of my project SERENA !!! LOL Anyway..... Today I received my NATURE 2 mineral cartridge to supplement my sodium dichlor water treatment. I will let you know if there is a noticeble diff in the amt of chlorine i have to use!! D1 recommends the Vision only sold by them, but its $99 (can get on ebay for $69 plus shipping) , but I figured I would give Nature2 a shot at $19.50 to my door (ebay). They say they're good for 4 months, and Vision claims 6 months, but I still think your gettin more bang for your buck at $20 a pop, unless someone tells me Vision is much better quality. HAPPY TUBBING!!!!! Paul
  7. Ok...first I wanna get my Bevis and Buthead out of the way...."You said petcock". Ok...that done, you might want to check your specs. My tub, which is a Hot Springs Sovereign the floor drain is also the ozonator so it is an integrel part of the system. Does your system have an ozonator? In the bubble, Thanks for the response... i believe my oz is seperate and is disharged near my led light. i dont think its a big deal if its open or closed until someone tells me different!!! paul
  8. 'Jetman', Congrats on the new tub. Post some pics. THANKS BIGGZ!!! I posted a thread with a link to webshots slide show last week and I can't seem to find it ?????? I called it PROJECT SERENA 2007!!!!! LETS TRY AGAIN!!!! http://good-times.webshots.com/slideshow/560864040YyjxMW Paul
  9. Just recently got my 03 Serena Bay up and running and am really enjoying my morning and evening soaks now that the cool fall air has rolled in!!!!! So far I am very HAPPY with my purchase and have not second guessed my decision to buy a pre-owned Dimension one at a fraction of the cost of a new one! I have a question regarding the floor drain. Is it supposed to be open or closed during normal operation. The petcock on the hose bib is closed and capped off at the side of the tub, but I was wondering if the floor drain (which is threaded to open or close) was used as an intake or return during normal operation????? Thanks! Paul
  10. I posted some project pictures on webshots!! http://good-times.webshots.com/slideshow/560864040YyjxMW Really enjoying my evening and morning soaks!! I just improved my quality of life! It may add some years on the backend!@!! The dynamic sequencer in the 2 Bio Form seats are really cool!! Now I am ready for some cool fall weather..... supposed to be mid 80's this weekend!! Will be the last weekend to use the pool!!! Is anybody out there using 'THE NATURAL' ???? Any comments or advice on water treatment. I have the VISION cartridge and I am using SPA Guard! Water looks GREAT so far!! Thanks Mark and Spa Guy for your comments!!!! LOOKS like i'll be TUBBIN till I DROP!!!!! Paul
  11. Well, after 2 months of research, several wet tests, laborious site preparation and valuable feedback from many of you, I finally am reaping the benefits of my hard labor!! Tonight the family was able to try out our NEW (pre-owned) TOY!!!! I found this 2003 D1 Serena Bay for $5600 (prev owner paid 14k). Deal included cover lifter, steps, bar and 2 stools, grab handle for entry, and a box full of D1 chemicals. It has the umbrella fountain and LED light system!! This tub was meticulously cared for and it shows. Looks like it just came off the showroom floor. My additional costs were $450 for delivery ( 5 movers took 4.5 hours.... was not easy due to terrain and the size of this tub being 8x10 weighing 1200lbs.!! Electrical hookup- $ 400 Concrete pad 16 x 14 $850 TOTAL INVESTMENT: $7300 We are very happy with the Serena Bay!! Lots of room to move and the seating positions are GREAT!!!! The jet action is SUPERB!@!!!! It took 6.5 hours to get to 102 deg. Started out at 69 degrees. Looking forward to some cooler temps!!! Wether has been fantastic in NY!! 70- 80 the last couple weeks.. I almost started to think I was in SanDiego!!!!! lol I will post some pics of my new ride later!!!!!! THANKS again for everyone who gave me advice!! Paul
  12. Hey Hockey, I loved the Nautilus, but decided on the used Serena Bay. Just could'nt pass up the deal! I paid $6000 for 2003 Serena Bay that was purchased in Aug 2004! That included steps, cover lifter, a bar & 2 stools, and whatever chemicals he has left. Of course I have to pay movers to transport that monster to my house!! My pad (10x12 pad turned into 16x14 w 2 sidewalks!!) was scheduled to be poured today, but looks like mother nature is going to delay us 1 day! Saturday is supposed to be a beautiful day! I scheduled spa delivery for Tuesday!!! Here are some pics of my progress!@ http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/27945...host=good-times My kids are driving me crazy!!! DAD, WHEN is it being delivered, when can we have our first HOT TUB PARTY, when will it be ready to soak in !!! GRRRRRRR Everybody here is very excited!!!!! Thanks! Paul
  13. Recently looked at 2003 Dimension 1 Serena Bay and i am a little confused. Spec sheets on D1 website show all 3 pumps on same side. When I pulled off panels, 2 pumps were on 1 side and 1 was on the other. Were the 2002 models set up that way??? Could it have been a lft over from 2002???? Website only offers manuals and spec sheets for 2003 to current. Does anybody have any ideas why they would not be the same as the schematic ?????? I saw a sticker on 1 pump that said "INSPECTED 3-03" . Is there a manufactures PLATE or ID TAG that would identify prod date???? If so, does anyone know where it is located???? THANKS!! Paul
  14. Kelly, I did find out that this Nautilus is a 2006 floor model! I checked it out and it is in like new condition. I love the foot well in the Nautilus. Very roomy. The lounge in the Californian is very comfortable and very tempting, but I think I would opt for the open seating of the Nautilus! Still considering the Sojourn, but still want to wet test both!! Thanks for your response Kelly! Good luck with your search!!!! Paul
