ruxton28 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I have a USA based spa with a CD player installed. Previously there was a flashing red light behind the removable front but this is no longer flashing and the power is not getting to the player. I would have thought this is virtually the same as a 12v car CD player and that there will be a 240V to 12V transformer installed in the spa electrics. I also presume that there will be a fuse link somewhere in its circuit which may well have blown. Are my assumptions correct? If so where is the fuse likely to be? Any other suggestions? Quote
ruxton28 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Report Posted March 26, 2007 I looked at this over the weekend and there is a yellow wire coming out of the back of the CD player into a 10 A fuse holder. (The fuse is OK) From the other side of the fuse holder the yellow wire continues into a terminal block. It then continues out of the terminal block but then the other end of the wire is not connected to anything and has a bare end to the wire. Im not an electrician but I would assume that the wire should terminate into a 12V supply coming from the transformer. Is that correct? There is also a 1A fuse which is described as "ANT" in the manual (Antenna?) This is OK too but Im not sure of its function Quote

Seems like there should be at least 2 for power and a few for speakers and maybe the wire your looking at is the antenea. Quote

The yellow one carries the 10 A fuse and is the power one. Do you know what the colour convention is for the other power lead? As I say the yellow wire coming out of the other side of the connector block is not connected and I cant see where it should be connected to Quote
Chas Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 The Ant wire with the small fuse is used to raise and lower an power antenna on an automobile. It is supposed to just turn on a relay, or run a very small motor to raise and lower the thing - don't imagine it will be used in a spa application. Quote

I think a power antenna on a spa would be neat. anyhow, a quick google gave me this link wich shows the most common car steroe wiring diagrams http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/educati...s/carwiring.htm Hopefully that helps? Since you said the power line was yellow, that seems to match up with the GM wiring scheme. Check the GM section on the above link. Does that match whata you're seeing? A brand name/model of the steroe would help greatly. Quote

Trigger Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 The marine CD player is a JBL model MR4 http://www.vitelectronics.com/jb4.html Ruxton, I tried to find a wiring diagram for the receiver, but so far no luck. From the JBL website, I was only able to get infrmation regarding amps and speakers, not players. For the fun of it, I sent them an e-mail asking for the wiring the diagram of the MR4 unit. Did the wiriing match up to any of the units in my previous link? Using a meter, you should be able to find out what wires carry power and trouble shoot from there...? Quote

I couldnt find any info from the link you said. I also found the JBL website but the site isnt that helpful. I think I need to get an electrician and find out where the transformer is and see which output is giving out a 12V supply Quote

I was sent back the following repsonse. I tried following the links with no luck. I contacted danny Burch who was quite helpful As suspected it seems like the UK 240 v supply goes into the separate transformer unit and I guess gets transformed down to the USA spec of 110v for the spa electrics and there will be terminals that transform 240V down to 12v for the audio equipment. All we need to do is find the transformer unit and find a 12v output and re connect the yellow (10a fused ) wire and re connect it. We can also check that the red wire coming from another 12v supply terminal on the transformer is also connected, also the black wire coming from the CD player is earthed on the transformer. Quote
