TXPoolOwner82 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 This test was done about a week after we refilled the pool (about a month ago), so my FAC should be higher now, and yet the pool has gotten progressively worse. It's not terrible, but is definitely a bit cloudy and green. FAC 1.5 ppm TAC 1.5 ppm pH 7.8 TA 100 ppm CYA 60 ppm Hardness 200 ppm Salt 3200 ppm Phosphates 200 ppb We're running the Jandy Stealth 2-spd pump 2.5 hours at high-speed and 6 hours in low-speed. (I plan on increasing the low-speed run time to 8 hours tomorrow.) The pool is 20k gallons. It seems to me that a bunch of minor problems (low FAC, slightly elevated pH, and high phosphates) are adding up to cause a significant problem, however, I am interested in any input or ideas. Please let me know what steps you all believe are most important for me to do. Quote
chem geek Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Assuming your numbers are accurate (and you should get your own Taylor K-2006 test kit if you do not already have this kit), then to prevent algae growth you need to have an FC that is at least 5% of the CYA level for a saltwater chlorine generator pool. At this point you need to shock the pool using chlorinating liquid or bleach to get ahead of the algae growth. Then after you get your water clear, have no more than 1 ppm FC loss overnight, and have no more than 0.5 ppm CC, then you can stop shocking and then maintain the appropriate FC level for your CYA level.
