I have already changed out one pump housing to no avail. I have not been able to make the outlet connection without a leak. I also had the same problem with a 1HP above ground Hayward pool pump. Funny thing. It does not leak in the hot weather, only in winter have tried everything. The inlet pump also leaks air and makes the self prime almost impossible. I am thinking about scrapping the whole deal and buying a different brand of pump. personally, I think the housings are defective. probably made in China. Any suggestions?

Permatex Form-A-Gasket® No. 2 Sealant.

Clean the male and female threads and then apply the sealer inside the female threads (thin coat pressed into the threads) and on the outside of the male threads (thicker coat pushed into the threads). Screw the male fitting into the female until secure without over tightening.

Allow the sealer to set overnight. You should not have any leaks.

Thanks for the Info. Never thought about using permatex. Will try it.
