Temp Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Hi Everyone, I've a lurker reading lots of your advice and tips. I've finally have a need for your help. I need to replace my pump, so I'm going for a new 2 speed pump to get some rebate savings from my electric company. I currently have a 115v pump and intermatic timer. Do you know if I will need to replace my timer if I upgrade to a 2 speed? I'm considering getting a WhisperFlo 3/4hp full rate 2 speed (115v pump). It has a toggle switch on the pump to change speed. Thanks! OO...how hard would it be to upgrade the time to a 240v? Will i need to pull new electric lines or can I use the current one? Quote
quantumchromodynamics Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 As long as the timer is rated for the amount of current that the pump will require there will be no reason to change the timer. If the timer is not capable of 240 volts, it is not too hard to change the timer to a 240 volt model. You can switch over to 240 volts from 120 volts. 240 volt uses half of the current, so wire size won't be an issue. The white neutral will need to be color marked to identify it as a hot wire and not a neutral. Caution: Changing over to 240 volts is probably something that should be done by an electrician. Quote
