ANN123 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I was just told I have extremely high phospate levels in my above ground pool. I have already treated it once, but the levels are still extremely high. I am not sure what to do. We were told it came from our pine tree near by, so we cut it down. Now we have to get the water cleared up. Quote
chem geek Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Though you could certainly spend money on a phosphate remover if you want to, you could just live with the high phosphate level if you used sufficient Free Chlorine (FC) relative to the Cyanuric Acid (CYA) level. My pool has 2000-3000 ppb phosphates yet I prevent algae from growing by maintaining a minimum FC that is at least 7.5% of the CYA level. You can learn more about maintaining your own pool at the Pool School. Read the article on Defeating Algae to learn how to clear the pool. Also, get yourself a good test kit, either the Taylor K-2006 or the TF100 from tftestkits.net. Quote
quantumchromodynamics Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Some pool stores try to scare you with terms like "extremely high phosphate levels" so that they can sell you lots of expensive treatment chemicals. Phosphate remover should be avoided unless there is a very good and specific reason to use it. Some pool stores are full of excess lie. The pool store employees add the excess lie to stabilize their profit margins. Without the excess lie, their profit margins would rapidly deteriorate. Unfortunately, the excess lie causes your Visa Debt and frustration levels to skyrocket. By the way, what were you told that your phosphate level was? Quote
