tcj1313 Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 I have an above ground pool and I need help balancing out the chemicals. I have tested it and the test shows: Total Hardness: 200 Free Chlorine: 2/4 but goes to 0 in about 2 hours pH: 6.8 Total Alkalinity: 240 or higher Cyanuric Acid: 0 How can I raise the chlorine, and Cyanuric Acid and lower the Total Alkalinity? Please help I have been trying to fix this for months now. Thanks, Quote
Angela Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Hi tcj I'm a bit rusty at this but it sounds like you need some stabilizer in your pool. If your CYA (cyanuric acid) is non existent then your chlorine will disappear in the sunlight within half an hour or so. You need to add cyanuric acid at a rate of 3kg per 100 cu metres (or 22,000 galls). Dont pre-mix with chlorine - dose directly into your pool. To bring down your TA you can add dry acid at a rate of 2kg per 100 cu metres (or 22,000 galls) but add it a little at a time (pre-disolve it in a bucket 8:1) and keep checking otherwise you can end up yo yoing down and up, down and up with your TA. Hope that helps Quote
