Foaming Issues

Hi

I'm new to this forum. I have a small Clearwater Spa and have been struggling with chemistry since day one. We have an ongoing 'theme' of foam issues. The only people who use this are myself and my husband, and we are both meticulous about not bringing soapy or oily products from clothes or body into the tub. Our spa dealer, Colorado Custom Spa finally suggested we use the Frog system (Bromine) which is easy and in combination with our already installed ozonator has kept the water crystal clear. I meticulously balance the water and check on almost a daily basis, as I HATE getting into dirty water. The ongoing problem is foam and cloudy water when we turn the jets on. We empty our hot tub every three months and just emptied it last month. I use Renew shock, 1 tblsp once a week and rinse the two filters every Sunday with a Super Blaster gadget for 10 minutes. Once every three months we use jet clean before we empty the tub, wipe it down, and refill. While this is going on, we soak the filters in Leisure Time Filter Clean overnight. We alternate our filters with another clean set.

I am looking into using a defoamer with floccing agent, (Super Spa Defoamer) and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this. I don't like the idea of using Leisure Time Defoamer every time I get in because it does leave a residue around the edge of the tub, and the Super Spa Defoamer claims that this is a permanent solution compared to other defoaming agents.

Can anyone assist me on this matter? Hope I gave enough details, or conversely, that I didn't make you gag from too many...

Thanks!

Maddi

Instead of "jet clean", use Ahh-Some as that will remove more greases, oils, and biofilms than other cleaning products.

What is your Calcium Hardness (CH) level? If you raise your CH to 120-150 ppm, that should help reduce foaming.

If after raising your water hardness you still get foaming, then don't overdose on a defoamer product as it should not take much.

Thanks Chem Geek. My Calcium Hardness is at the reading you suggested. I will definitely check into the Ahh-Some (just purchased Filter Clean so that needs to be used first). I use just one or two squirts of defoamer, but am concerned that I have to use it every time I get in the tub. I was just wondering about the floccing agent defoamer as it claims that it's a more long term solution to foam, as opposed to Leisure Time's Foam Down.
