Danglewang
I have an older 99 hot springs prodigy. Recently our house was struck by lightning, now the control panel power light is blinking and the display doesn't illuminate, and none of the controls work. The water stays hot and circulates when plugged in. I checked the control panel board and it looks fine (no burn marks or broken piceces) same with the main control board (iq 2000). I've searched and searched and found some people with almost the same problem, except mine still stays hot and circulates. Any ideas? PreservedSwine
Look on the IQ2000 for some LED's on the upper middle of the control box. Look for "Lim OK" and "CNTRL UNPLUGGED" see if either, or neither is lit. Also, take OHM readings of the thermistors.
Danglewang
3 leds, top is green says lim ok Bottom 2 are red for htr on and control unplugged, none are lit. I'll give ohm readings on the thermistors after I get my hands on a MM later today
PreservedSwine
Just to confirm: lim ok is lit (green) control unplugged is not lit, And the red power led still flashing?
Danglewang
No, none of the leds on the main board are lit, just the flashing red one on the control panel
PreservedSwine
Good chance it's just a bad thermistor. Keep your fingers crossed.
Danglewang
Oh that would be great. Rather than up upgrade to entire electrical system, 20 bucks sure beats 500. I'll update results after I test it
Danglewang
Well new thermostats came in, hooked up, plugged in the power cord, and...... Blinking red light, no display, circulation pump still working, any other ideas? On a side note, I only plugged them in, didn't actually screw them in to their locations, not sure if that makes a difference
Danglewang
Update, found reset on heater, pushed it, now when power is connected display comes on for a few seconds
PreservedSwine
That's just coincidental, the heater doesn't communicate with the logic on the IQ2000. If the thermistors didn't do it, the next step is to upgrade to the IQ2020 control box and control head.
Danglewang
Update. Got another iq2000 control board, hooked up, everything works fine, except it doesn't get hot
PreservedSwine
IQ2000 or IQ2020? The IQ2000 hasn't been in production for several years. If you replaced with IQ2020 main board and control head, just jump the flow switch receptacle on the main board. If you replaced with an IQ2000, where did you find it? Danglewang
It's a iq2000, someone was parting out his leaking tub, had it checked out and there's nothing wrong with it. After some research I read that this heater it's prone to failure, especially on refill. It's a Watkins no fault 6000
PreservedSwine
Did you check power to the heater, OHM out the heater, or both? It may just be a little reset button on the heater if it is indeed the original heater still in there. Was the new control box previousley wired for 110, or 220v? Danglewang
Check ohms over heater wires, showed OL, pressed reset button, no change. My original board was wired for 110, the new looked the same. Once hooked up, everything worked, control panel, jets, light. Unlike before. And the lim and htr leds both light up. I imagine the heater is bad, but how do I check to see if power is being sent to the heater?
PreservedSwine
Set your meter to volts, and meter across the two terminals on the heater relay where the heater wires are attached. It sounds like the heater has failed. Try mashing that reset button for all you're worth. Peel the tape back, and press down as hard as you can. Use a screwdriver if you have too. You want it to OHM out around 9-11 OHMS
Danglewang
So the reset button seems broken so I bypassed it to test and reads 9.8. So I guess I still need to replace the heater
