drumfunky
Hi Everyone, This is my first post and my first time using my new Salt Water converter. What is the best way to test for salt levels. Test strips or the digital meters??? I'm new to all this. How many bags of salt do people go through in a month generally? I live in CA and have a 40,000 gallon pool. Thanks for the responses in advance. Monte
quantumchromodynamics
The Aquachek White Salt test strips perform well and should be sufficient for your needs. http://www.aquachek.com/productinfo.asp?id=16 If you want to test another way, the Taylor K-1766 Chloride test kit also works well. http://www.taylortechnologies.com/products_kitinfo.asp?&MarketID=1&KitID=2176 A digital meter is accurate if it is properly calibrated. However, it is not worth the expense unless you work in the pool business and need to test frequently. The Hayward Goldline GLX-SALTMETER and calibration solution (GLX-CAL-SOL Calibration solution for salt meter, 3200-ppm) are a good choice. http://www.poolplaza.com/P-GLD-GLXSALTMETER-3540.html If you go to the pool store for testing, look for the Myron L and ask them when they last calibrated the unit. http://www.myronl.com/products/poolmeter.htm How many bags of salt do people go through in a month generally? Once you add the initial amount of salt to reach the required concentration (For example, Jandy requires 3,000 ppm salt), you only have to add salt to replace what is lost to water loss from sources such as splash-out and backwashing. You should monitor the salt level as reported by your unit and test the water periodically to verify. The amount needed per month should not be much at all. To raise the salt level by 3,000 ppm in 40,000 gallons, you would add 1,000 pounds of salt. Your water will already contain some salt, so you will subtract the existing amount to determine the amount to add. What is the make and model of your salt water chlorine generator? Great info, thanks a lot. I will check out exactly what model generator it is and post later. I know it's a Jandy and a model that just came out.
