Thrice
Hi, new member here, I recently just took over servicing a spa at a hotel. The guy that was taking care of it before did not do too much to it, as when I took over, it was green. I have done tons of research and attended the CPO class about 2 years ago, and can still not solve the problem, although I think it is very basic. I am using a Bromine feeder tower and have it wide open, yet my Bromine levels are minimal (~0.1) everyday. I am using the test strips and a digital kit. I have attempted to shock the pool by adding CalHypo which temporarily solves the problem (Br usually gets to about 3ppm) then the next morning when I come into work it is back to zero. I dont know if the CalHypo is being used up or what, but the water color is only getting more green. The pH is 7.6, the TA is 90, and the Hardness is a little low (about 150). I dont think the hardness should have any effect on the rest though. PLEASE HELP! Thanks you kindly, Nick
Thrice
Also, I need to restock all the pool chems and was wondering if you all had any suggestions. I was thinking about using soda ash, although I do not know too much about it, but it increses pH and alk if i'm not mistaken. I read the thread about borates and I am considering taking that route as well. Any info is greatly appreciated.
quantumchromodynamics
I would highly recommend that you drain and refill the hot tub. Forget about bromine. Use bleach to maintain a sanitizer level as needed. The green is probably copper being corroded from the heat exchanger in the heater. Monitor the heater closely for any leaks. You can use trichlor in the feeder to provide a low continuous feed of chlorine, but be sure to monitor the cyanuric acid (stabilizer) levels carefully. Is the Hot Tub plaster, tile, or what? What temperature do you keep the Hot tub at?
