  1. Forgive me if this has been covered, but I couldn't find an answer when searching the forum. When shocking my tub with household bleach, I'm reading that I should target a value above 10ppm. Is that 10ppm of bromine or chlorine? Also, I followed the guidelines of adding ~1 cup of the 5.25% variety for my 300 gallon tub. My bromine numbers are still high after 3 days. I left the cover open for 2 hours Saturday and an hour each day after. I'm still waiting for my Taylor kit, so I can't give you precise values. I'm using a pool master kit where you match the color in the window. It's off the chart, so I diluted a sample with tap water by 50%, and I'm estimating that I'm at somewhere around ~13ppm still. My tub sees lite use. I use it for about a half hour a night, and my wife and son will sometimes get in about once a week. We're pretty careful about being rinsed before getting in. My bromine levels drift up throughout the week with my floater closed down all the way, and I have to pull it out of the tub completely every few days to prevent the levels from getting too high. Is it possible that shocking weekly is too frequent in my case? Should I wait to shock until my numbers start dropping? I'm still new to all of this, and I appreciate the resources and guides in this forum. I wish I had found it before visiting the local branch of the national chain that sold me on a small fortune of unnecessary chemicals lol. Oh well. Live and learn. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
