I checked my ph with an aquachek test strip. It showed ph at 6.2 (could’ve been lower that’s just the lowest on the comparison chart.)
my ph increase said to use 8 g per 1000L. I have a 7 seat hot tub. At least 1000L probably closer to 1300+ L.
I added 80 g hoping to reach a ph of 7.2-7.8 as per instructions. Now my ph is reading over 8.4 (could be higher. That just the highest reference point on the chart I have.)
what am I doing wrong? New to hot tubs. Please help.
thank you
put this in the water care area and read through the stickies lots of info there

I really don't like therapeutic jets. Love hot tubs, hate jets.
Bubbles are fine.
How would you suggest transporting a used spa? I don't have a truck. By the time I've hired a truck/trailer and moved it I may as well build one
look online kijji I found guys to move my tub for $300 cash from the orig owners back yard to mine best $300 i spent as tub was 1000lbs

"Hold" is a response to a button being pressed for too long. One of your buttons is shorting out. Figuring out which topside it is will be a challenge with it being intermittent.
would I be safe to assume the remote panel? as I did not touch the main until it said lock and hold it supposed to warm up a bit here in a few days, if so I will open it up and check that connector again if its opened again ill zip tie it together

Ok so it happened again tonight been fine almost a month use 2x a day every day
tonight I got in turned on 2 pumps and blower 20 mins later as per timer they turned off I reached over to my REMOTE panel and pressed the blower NOTHING tried both pumps nothing so I went and looked at lcd and it was locked AND said HOLD then the spa light turned off so being now dark and cold out (currently -9C) I decided to sit and drink another beer about 2 mins later the panel went back to unlocked and no hold I went over to remote panel and turned on blower and both pumps a few times over the next 15 mins or so and it would not do it again so it MAY be the remote panel
when it went into lock and flashing HOLD the filter cycle was running the recirc pump as per schedule

did you check the bulb?
are the control panel connectors firmly seated? is everything else on the panel working?

so my tub level is dropping BUT no water/ice at the bottom had equip bay open its dry
1 person using tub 20-30 mins each morning and 40 mins each night temp is -10 or so (Canada) steams a lot when cover off
tub has a cover water is leaking from edges of cover some mornings there is ice from this but not enough to account for water loss
water kept at 37-38 recirc pump runs 6 hours overnight and filter cycle runs 3.5 hours every 24
so how much water loss would be normal I'm not sure if i have a leak (even through cabinet appears dry inside...) and of course its too cold to really look for leak
I lost about 1-1.5 inch in 3 days

you probably could should you, NO if your not getting enough flow you could overheat and damage your heater
if you had another flow switch you could swap in that would eliminate the switch being the problem

I am having trouble as to why the pump would have any effect on the circ pump. They are usually plumbed as 2 separate systems. At the bottom of the heater there are 2 red lines...where do they go? Do they run over to the main #1 pump face where I can see 2 red lines in the video?
well for MY sundance altamar 2001 the recirc pump turns on when it needs heat BUT when you turn on pump 1 the water ALSO goes through the heater I can tell this because the flow is much stronger
OP my sundance I was getting OH errors as my RC pump was running BUT not pushing enough water I had a spare pump once i swapped it in problem went away
-
thats a flow switch and it is closed meaning there is flow and it should be heating if its calling for it
-
I personally do not use the drain
I have a small submersible pump i attach a garden hose to it drop the pump in run the hose where I want water to go and plug in pump just keep an eye on it as pump should NOT run dry
-
do you have the pieces? could you just glue them back on then seal
automotive bondo?
no suggestions from the vendor?

Ok I inspected main topside no moisture not cracks looks fine
open control box the connector to the remote topside was open I closed it again ran tub for 2 hours and seems ok for now
If it locks tonight when we are in it I will unplug remote topside and try again

That's what I would do. Also disconnect the auxiliary. Some systems recognize a shorted button and automatically lock the topside to prevent accidental equipment issues, such as a pump running continuously or such. Not sure on yours, but very possible.
Ok I’ll inspect topside tonight and unplug the aux panel to start then see what happens process of elimination
is topside more likely then board?
thanks

Could be a bad topside or circuit board. How does the topside look? Any moisture behind the screen or cracks in the overlay? Does it have an auxiliary topside or button?
Topside looks perfect no moisture that I can see. It does have a second topside that plugs into the harness of the main topside it functions fine (except when locked)
I will double check topside carefully when I get home
anyway I can test ? I do have another main topside that I changed months ago as 1 button stopped working I suppose I could plug that back in to confirm topside is problem or not

OH could be low water flow remove your filter and run it
Mine had the OH turned out to be the ozone injector I replaced was too small and not enough water flow
could be temp sensor in your filter box they can be tested with multi meter could be the hi limit in your heater (not as likely)

I installed my 2001 altamar back in the spring it has worked fine since then
the last few days ive noticed the control panel is locked (pic of padlock) useing the manaul i pressed the buttons to unlock and NOTHING it stays locked panel says 15 5 LOC
came back 5 mins later if was unlocked and fine this morning same thing panel locked you cant change anything or turn anything on or temp up or down heater WAS running
went inside came out 20 mins later still locked so i turned off power for 1 min back then back on lock went away
No other errors nobody has touched anything in the equipment bay for weeks
any ideas?

Water is about 3 months old ph was bit low chlorine is fine my alkalinity keeps jumping about 150-180 I bring it down with ph down then raise the ph with soda ash and the alkalinity goes up after a day or two
we use the tub 2x a day for 30-40 mins each time 2 people tub is a 2001 sundance altamar
water is clear looks fine
any ideas?
-
are you positive the leak was from there? I chased a leak around in a full foam tub and it was several feet away from where foam was wettest
-
I will keep an eye on it leak is very small it may stop itself. If not I’ll pull it and check for cracks or damage
-
its were the water enters the injector its barbed and undamaged looks round fitting is 3/4" hose ID is 3/4 inch (doesn't leak on other side)
can you use t tape on a barbed fitting?
drip is very minor kinda hoping it stops itself
does it matter if the air line barb on the injector is pointing up or down? I've seen them both ways online
-
My 2001 altamar goes into oh sometimes it was fine until I installed the ozone injector I installed a black one turns out I should have the white. so today I installed the white easy enough BUT I have a small drip from the in barb. Ok I thought hose or clamp was bad so I cut new piece of hose and used new clamp still have small drip any ideas or ways to seal this barbed connection? Hose is new fits tightly hose was soft when installed (put it in tub to soften Plus side I have much harder flow from heater jet now
-
I measure out the amounts and add them with all jets running
others mix them in water then add the water to the tub
-
so my sundance altamar 2001 which I have had since the spring started giving OH codes this tub has a high speed pump NOT on the heater circut a recirc pump and a two speed pump both run water through the heater
when I get the OH i turn power off then on its fine and we use it
I used my bbq digital thermometer the tub is 1.5 degrees warmer then the display says OR my thermometer is off....
here is what happens
tub set to 38 cover down tub stays always at 37 NEVER get OH
before we use it I go out and turn it to 39 cover down IF i leave it 20 mins or so it gets to 38.5 if it goes above that we get OH which according the my thermometer would be 40.
5 (never did this until last week) nothing has changed
I took the filter out and turned it up cover down still get OH
I'm going to try it tonight but ill turn the two speed pump on low maybe its a waterflow issue NO FLO code!
today when I got OH I grabbed a handful of ice as its winter here I put it on the sensor in the filter area and temp dropped but flow code stayed for several mins
any suggestions? I dont know the age of either temp sensors
-
My 2001 altamar did the same thing in my case my recirc pump while running was not pushing enough water (20 years on a pump) and the heater would hit over heat I only found this problem as I had a spare recirc pump installed it and never had an OH code again..... might not be your problem
