Thank you for the response. Turns out it was a partially blocked suction port line. In case any one has the same issue.......I ended up clearing the line using a garden hose expandable clean out tool.

They told me to leave the skimmer and side suction port open while vacuuming. In my mind the line should prime without the skimmer valve ope. Any thoughts?

I have a newly renovated pool (last fall) with a new side suction port installed. When I close the skimmer valve and open the side suction port, I get low pressure and surging in the pump which does not seem to clear up with or without a vacuum conected. Is this normal? what am I doing wrong? Thanks In advance for your responses.
