I don't have a PHD in chemistry and struggle to understand all the responses to these posts but I wouldn't think there would be any problem with keeping the tub at 85 in the summer. My pool rarely goes above 85 and the water is usually really clean as long as I check it every month or so. The only thing I find with my tub is the circulation jets seem to stop when I set the temperature too low which is not good.
I keep my tub at 94/95during the winter and then jack it up a few hours before I go in just to try and save a bit of money on electricity. Not sure where you are but Canada gets pretty cold in Jan - Feb and the cost of electricity is high.
