7 years ago my wife bought a used beachcomber 321 plug and play 120v tub, the tub was already 8 years old at time of purchase and I think she got her money's worth out of it.
However,it recently began to leak, first from the pump which we had fixed and then from somewhere else.
Knowing that with the full foam insulation we would spend more to fix the leak than my wife paid for the tub we decided to replace it.
My wife found the Canadian Spa Co Winnipeg Plug and play tub on Walmart.ca and it was $5,200 plus tax with free curbside delivery.
These are the issues we had and why we are returning it.
1) The GFCI melted. My wife ran her previous tub via an outdoor extension cord for 7 years no issues but within 3 days this tub melted it's GFCI plug. Let me clarify that the tub comes with a fitted GFCI plug which on the casing of the plug says that heavy duty extension cords can be used.
I contacted CSC and was told that we should not be using extension cord, but due to the confusion they would honour the warranty and send a replacement GFCI plug. Also we could fit a longer power cable direct to the tub providing it was done by a qualified electrician and he certified that it met code.
2) Jets, on the old tub it would circulate 24/7 and then you turn jets on. On this new one which was advertised as having a 2 speed jet, speed one is the circulation so really it is only a 1 speed. Also you can only have jets working to one side of the tub at a time, there is a middle setting on the dial which is supposed to activate all jets but the result is that everyone gets tickled with no real jets.
3) The manual sucks, it lists every model, doesn't really differentiate and leaves you to figure out what is for your tub and even then it doesn't list the control panel fitted in the tub we bought. Also it states the there must be a GFCI socket for plug and play tubs, yet the tub comes with a fitted GFCI plug (according to our electrician plugging a GFCI plug into a GFCI socket is redundant and could permanently damage one or both GFCI units)
The manual goes on to say that ALL tubs must be hard wired (I know they mean the 240v tubs but they don't clarify it)
In defence of Canadian Spa Co, they were really easy to get hold of for support, unfortunately they have a poor quality product with a useless owners manual.
