  1. I am new to this site as my wife and I have just purchased a home with an in ground pool. Neither of us grew up with a pool and needless to say we are having a few issues. We got the pool up and running at the beginning of the summer and everything was going perfectly, that is until Ohio and its amazing weather patterns took force a few weeks ago. The temperature dropped into the low 70's and we were not able to swim. Remember i have never owned a pool before and i did not think anything of it to let the pool sit. Now the pool is green. We killed the algae and got the levels back to normal but now we are stuck with the remnants of the algae at the bottom of the pool that we could not seem to vacuum for the life of us. We have a filter cartridge and we heard it would be good to take the filter out and bypass the jets and vacuum to waste. So we did that. In the middle of this the tubing broke and we had to stop. We figured we would throw some clarifier in the pool and then turn the pump on and see if it would clump the remaining algae for the filter to catch. We hooked everything back up and the pump does not seem to want to prime now. The jets are not working. i can feel water going through the pipes, but nothing happens. I open the filter lid and i see smoke. Now i am completely flaberghasted. (SP). If anyone here would help a new pool owner out with some advice i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks TJ
