  1. I continued having cloudy water problems after asking my guests to shower before going into the tub. At first I suspected that my guests weren't following the "rules" but eventually realized that the cloudy water was caused by hair products. Now I ask my guests to do their best to keep their hair out of the water (sometimes hinting that the chemicals may damage their hair!), and have rarely seen cloudy water since.
  2. I've had a Sundance Optima on my roof-top patio in downtown Montreal for the past two years and I would recommend this unit for build quality, reliability, low noise, and hassle free operation during the cold winter months. I purchased through one of the Club Piscine franchises in Laval and was very pleased with their sales service (easy price negotiations and hassle free delivery, which was important for my installation). I'm sure you can get similar service from them in Quebec City, and this is an important factor in any spa purchase...
  3. what year optima do you have? It's a 2007 (April) model Thanks Spatech for the tip! So far the spa is back up and running without a hitch. However, I would love to know what caused the fuse to blow. It was a rather mild 30F last night, compared to the -15F to -20F nights we suffered through over the winter. We haven't had any power outages in months and the spa is well cared for...
  4. I haven't initiated a service call with my dealer as he says it takes a couple of days to get the tech out (not sure what that all about!). I took another look at the spa in the daylight and discovered that the 30amp fuse had blown. I'm off to pick up a replacement. Anyone have insights on what could cause these fuses to blow?
  5. My Sundance spa has worked perfectly since installation. Went out tonight for my nightly dip to discover that the control panel was dead, and the circulation pump wasn't working. Checked the GFCI and it was fine, as is the breaker indoors. The manual says to call my dealer but am hoping that there may be someone here who can help me diagnose this further. What is the the typical problem when the power to the Optima is good but the panel is dead? Are there some easy access fuses that I can check?
  6. My Sundance Optima is on a roof deck directly above my bedroom. When I installed the tub, after getting an engineer to confirm that the weight of the tub could be supported by the roof design, I rebuilt the deck supports and then laid down a vibration absorbing half inch rubber mat on top of the deck. The mat came from an industrial supply center and the rubber composition was formulated to absorb vibrations. It cost many $$ but was well worth it! I sleep soundly like a big baby every night (after a dip in the tub)!
  7. Stephane, I'm in Montreal and purchased my spa last summer... I met with the Beachcomer and Artic Spa dealers and then settled on the Sundance Optima from Club Piscine on Boul Laurentide in Laval. I was able to negotiate a very good deal with a salesman who had 20 years of experience in the business - He was an excellent source of information. I chose the Sundance over the others because of peculiarities with my installation (space, noise) but all three dealers seemed to know their stuff. The delivery and installation was handled beautifully, especially considering that the spa had to be lifted onto a fourth story roof! Also, there was a problem with a leaky pump about one month after the installation and it was repaired with no hassles. As for the insulation issue, I don't think that you will notice that much of a difference in your heating bill for it to matter. Considering the very high price for Arctic spas in Canada, and the very low electricity costs in Quebec, it would take 30 years for you to make up the difference solely on this issue! Go for a soak and choose the dealer that you believe will give you the best service...
