  1. We have a Marquis 636 Everyday Hot Tub. (made around 2006, I think) It came with the house. We are simply not using this spa enough (at all) to make the constant monitoring and care of it worth it. So, we want to winterize it. I see the instructions for this in the 636 user guide. I have drained it and am going to bail it out, but would it be worth it to hire a local spa company to do the rest? I don't have a wet dry vac, and I don't really have the time to do it (or learn how to do it). Thanks for any thoughts. Mac
  2. We have a marquis 636 spa that came with the house that we bought. We don't plan to use the spa during the winter. The winterizing process looks very complicated. If we don't want to go through that, what is the best option? Keep the spa at 80F (the lowest it will go) and put a giant thermal blanket around it? This is around Portland, OR. Thanks. Mac
  3. Thanks. Guess I will try to do some research on what is meant by "Two step bromine" and "Three step bromine". Maybe I can find a good bromine floater on amazon. Mac
  4. Why is the usefulness of the mineral cartridge (and ozonator) questionable? Can you explain what you mean? Is there science behind this comment? Thanks. Mac
  5. I just bought a house with a Marquis 636 Everyday hot tub from 2006. It came with an ozonator and inline Frog Spa Bromine green cartridge and Frog Spa Mineral blue cartridge. I do not care for the smell of the bromine, although no "rashes" so far. The users so far are myself and my young (6) son. I have read posts about using chlorine (dichlor?) and Nature2 instead of bromine. Is this something that would be effective in an older (2006) hot tub? We would like to be able to stop needing to take a shower after using the spa. We use the tub 3-4 times a week for about an hour. Thanks. Mac
  6. Thanks to everyone for their posts. I really appreciate them. I think I will pass on the jetted tub, partly because someone outside this chat said it would cost 5-7 K. I guess I will get a quote for a steam shower. Thanks again. mac
  7. Thanks. A question that I also need to ask is this: If I have a hot tub outside, and I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, is there a real advantage to having a whirlpool inside the house? I know if would be convenient, but I wonder, how many people with a hot tub outside actually have a small jetted tub inside in their bathroom. I suppose I could use the hot tub outside all winter long...that is my only real concern. Thanks for any thoughts. Mac
  8. Yes, thank you. I think that was it. It was suggested that I drain the tub and refill it to deal with this, but this time with the garden hose in one of the Vortex filter housings (not just in the bottom of the tub). After that, works like a charm. Thanks.
  9. We are interested in replacing our small bath tub with a jetted tub. (air tub or whirlpool tub) However, I don't even know where to start on this. Does anyone know the major brands for this? Would angie's list be a good place to look for a company to come out and make an estimate? Thanks for any guidance. mac
  10. Thanks. We found that Pr followed by -- followed by jets in half the spa followed by the heater is what it is supposed to do. We have not experimented with the other settings, but I need to find out, as I need to know what to do with the spa overnight. I recall that in the manual it says not to leave the cover on when the spa is heating. Overnight, do you leave it with the power on? We stopped using it an hour ago (after pressing the Jets button until everything stopped) (temp was 90), and I just checked on it and it is again on "low" (heater on) with half the jets going. Also, when the spa is on what seems to be "low" only the jets on one side of the spa are on. All the jets come on only when it is clearly on "High". Is this normal? Thanks very much for your help. Mac
  11. I recently bought a house with a Marquis 636 Everyday Hot Tub. (made around 2006, I think) I downloaded and printed the manual, and read it carefully. However, when turning on the power, it does not do what it should do. First the Pr text appears on the Control panel. That is fine. Then after 4 or so minutes, there is a rumbling, and this "--" replaces the Pr. But the jets do not start. The manual seems to imply that they should start, and noticeably. I made sure that the jets are open (I pressed the Jets button and then went around to make sure). After the "--" is on for a couple minutes, it shows the temp (68) which is then replaced with 1. After a while the temp comes back and a 2 appears. Then it changes to 69 and a 3 appears. This is not in the manual. We have a service call set for tomorrow, but...is this how the tub heats up? Is this normal? The jet do seem to work, after you press the Jets button. Thanks. Mac
