  1. I admit it, I'm new at pools. I have been in the HVAC/Plumbing trade my entire life so I think I have the basics. First of all I am fairly confident I don't have a leak, as water loss has never been an issue. When my runs, water level in pump is always full, except for a "hiccup" every once and a while. If I'm watching the pump, I notice the water level drop slightly in the sump area, then come right back up. If your at or near the pool, you can see or hear an air bubble come out op the pool supply outlet on the wall. Everyone says leak, but if I don't loose water, where's the leak. On boilers, you have air scoops in the system. Sometimes instead of relieving air in the system, they are faulty and don't leak but siphon air in. I know a pool doesn't have the same thing, but where is this air coming from?
  2. Hello, Recently purchased a foreclosed home where most of the pool equipment was either taken or no good. I'm a HVAC Service Tech, not a pool tech by any means, but learning "on the job". It is an in-ground pool with an attached built in spa which overflows into pool. Main pool pump motor was seized and timer was burnt out so I replaced motor and timer.....those are working fine. There is a separate pump which operates the spa jets and a separate air blower with an air switch. There was an Intermatic 4 function air switch mounted on the wall but the guts were removed. I purchased a new 4 function switch/timer, new air button, hose, and am going to rewire the pump, blower, and air switch. What should be the proper function of this system? Does the pump run only on timer and should that be set just like the main pool pump to run at the same times? And when you are using the spa, do you depress the air button and the blower and pump operate? Or is it just the blower? There is a return and supply running from the main pool pump to a floor return and supply outlet with a 1" female thread (for what I was told is for a fountain head), should those operate with main pool pump? Thanks for your help.
  3. I purchased a home last year in Florida with a pool that was, of course, a foreclosure. The pool had been unused forever and was very nasty to say the least. I had many varying opinions and the one I chose (big mistake) was to "treat the hell out of it,and it will come back". Well I did, and after much $$$ in chemicals, it kinda came back. It never really returned to a state of "crystal clear". No matter how much I tried to balance out the chemicals, within a day or so, the pool would start to turn green. My family and I went away last month for a week and when we returned, the pool was just as green as the day I bought the house. I needed to do a few things to the pool....replace the light, repair floor drain cover. So needless to say I got aggravated and stuck the submersible pump in there and next morning.....no more green water!!! Just wondering what's next? Acid wash? Concrete looks to be in good shape, but do I consider having it re-surfaced? Any help would be great, thanks!
