  1. Can any one tell me if you can buy TAYLOR test kits in the UK. They seeem to be the bees knees in testing water. Found a Taylor model k2005 on e bay from USA but don't know if this is correct model. (says it tests for chlorine , bromine, TA PH Hardness etc. ) don't want to spend $95 inc postage if wrong model, but would definately like to buy Taylor as strips and tabs seem to be very hit and miss. If not can any UK posters suggest any alternatives.
  2. Hi Water bear.. i am testing with tablets (dpd1 phenol red and alkalinity) that you drop into a 3 compartment scale reader (don,t know the make) The bromine llevel on the indicator stops at 11ppm but is a deeper pink than that so is a lot higher. Interestingly when i test with strips which i have also got the ph does read about 6.8 ph but with the tabs above 8.4ph (again where it stops on the scale) and is a very deep pink colour. which one is right. guessing the strips from your last info. I have not added any dry acid as i wanted to see what came back on here. Good job as i would have been making the water even more acidic. So the ph is not high but low due to the acidic conditions of the water. So what do you suggest an empty and refil.?????
  3. Can anyone help (waterbear). Have really high (well above 10ppm) bromine levels and have done for couple of days now despite no floater with tabs in tub for this period. The tub is not being used during week, weekends mainly so could be why bromine is not being used up but with no floater in with tabs thought it would fall but isn't doing. could ozonator be keeping levels high by oxidizing bromide.? Also ph is really high above 8.4 and TA really low, below 40 and cant seem to stabalise. Add dry acid and falls for couple of hours but then next day high again. Please help this new hot tub owner......
  4. Thanks for reply. I added sodium bromide on initial set up and shocked. levels rose quickly. It seems that after use the bromine levels drop to virtually 0ppm and the only way to increase is to shock the tub after each use, raising it to about 5-8ppm. But then after use again drops again. Should i have to shock the water after each use as the info i have got says it should really only need to be done weekly. Any help appreciated.
  5. Hi... new to hot tubs so bear with me. Just bought / set up 6 person 1000ltr ozonating spa. After reading lots of articles am i right in thinking that if bromine levels are very low 1 or even less ppm despite having 2-3 tablets in a floating dispenser with collar wide open, simply adding more tablets will not work..... the answer is to shock with the oxy shock i bought, as this will activate the bromine. Just putting in extra tablets alone will be no good. Sorry if this is a really obvious question/answer. I am learning.....
