  1. Thanks. Just to clarify: I'm essentially going for a chlorine-free spa, with nature2 sanitising, mPs before and after use and once a week, and a chlorine product to activate the spa Stick initially and as an occasional shock. Is all the chlorine ppm and cya stuff still relevant? Also, any comments on the two mps products? Thanks.
  2. Sorry if this has been asked before. Lithium vs dichlor as a chlorine shock with nature2? All the australian websites advise lithium to shock, with dichlor reported to cause filters to deteriorate?? But dichlor seems routine in the states, and is a lot cheaper. The guy at the spa shop said dichlor is worse at higher (spa) temperatures, so use lithium.. but would prefer to use dichlor due to cost. Nature2 instructions in Australia said lithum.. Also, I have access to an MPS product that is greater than 42% potassium peroxymonosulphate and 10% boric acid. It's marketed as a pool shock, and heaps cheaper here in Australia than MPS of 46% and 5% oxygen. I have a friend who uses it. Any problems using this rather than traditional MPS? To give you an idea, 1kg of 'spa' mps is $35 here http://www.zodiac.co...n/spa-oxyfresh. But 10kg of the pool shock (the boric acid version) is only $100! http://www.zodiac.co...ection/oxyfresh
  3. Cool, thanks guys. I have access to an MPS product that is greater than 42% potassium peroxymonosulphate and 10% boric acid. It's marketed as a pool shock, and heaps cheaper here in Australia than MPS that has the 5% oxygen. I have a friend who uses it. Any problems using this rather than traditional MPS (perhaps go for it, but expect to chuck in some bi-carb?). To give you an idea, 1kg of 'spa' mps is $35 here http://www.zodiac.com.au/products/spa-chemicals/step-2-pure-protection/spa-oxyfresh. But 10kg of the pool shock (the boric acid version) is only $100! http://www.zodiac.com.au/products/pool-chemicals/step-2-pure-protection/oxyfresh Also guys, what about lithium vs dichlor? All the australian websites advise lithium to shock, with dichlor reported to cause filters to deteriorate?? But dichlor seems routine in the states!!
  4. Thanks Preserved Swine. You're skepticism about ozone is helpful. I have some nature 2 sticks on there way her to Australia from the states (cheaper), so I'll give it a go. You're right in your assumptions about the two types of ozone systems. They've quoted us $510 for regular ozone (http://www.justspas.com.au/cat/index.cgi/shopfront/view_product_details?category_id=29886&product_id=1640372) , and over $800 for 'de-gassed' (http://www.justspas.com.au/cat/index.cgi/shopfront/view_product_details?category_id=29886&product_id=1640374), which invovles ozone being pre-mixed and unused ozone being converted back to oxygen, so no ozone smell and it doesn't erode headreasts (is this a big issue with ozone??). We don't have a circ pump installed, and currently run the 2 speed pump for 4 hours/day. Not planning on increasing daily filtration time if I can avoid it. It's 600w on the low pump speed (I think), so trying not to overdo it on the electricity bill. Mind you, chemicals are expensive too, so increasing filtration could be an option.. Long and the short of it is we're quite confused about whether we need ozone, or whether we'll be fine if we just try nature 2 with MPS and the odd chlorine shock. Yes, we are trying to be as chemical free as possible. But maybe good old bromine is what we'll arrive at if nature2 doesn't work. Looking forward to the Nature 2 sticks arriving!! I'm trying to find MPS for less than $35/kilo in Australian shops if anyone can help..
  5. Hi all, I'm a bit of a newbie here. Have had a spa for 14 weeks, 9 of which it leaked. LED light fitting replaced twice, no further problems (so far..). Anyway, our other problem has been sanitisation. We declined ozone when we purchased the spa ($500 extra) but find that our sanitiser (poppits hydrogen peroxide) doesn't last more than 24 hours in the spa. We think we'll try nature 2 and MPS, but are also thinking of having ozone reto-fitted. We've been told we can't have de-gassed ozone, since this can only be done at factory (pre-delivery). So they're looking into regular ozone. Is regular ozone particularly smelly when the cover comes off? Do people generally regarding this as a problem, or are a significant proportion of people using non de-gassed ozone systems without issues such as ozone smell? Thanks, Jonn.
