  1. I've been getting alot of questions on Home Depot spas, and United Spas. We have a Home Depot in town that is sitting spas out front of the store at very low prices, I know they won't deliver and don't have any service people to work on them. We also Have a United Dealer in town who is selling his tubs at very low prices but I hear alot of customers come in and say he tells them he sells the exact same quality as me but just at whole sale prices. But, then he doesn't offer any service information to his customers

Was hoping some one out there could help me, and maybe give me some information on this company.from what I saw I think his Spas are alot lower quality than Caldera Spas, and the only other tubs available in this area which I do reccomend if customers ask me where they can go shop around are hotsprings and Coleman. I tried to pull up United on the internet did not find much at all.

  2. I got the same response and wasn't impressed by the salesperson. (I think he was a saleperson?) Very unprofesional. I'm going to wet test a Caldera Geneva at Morris Sunspace in Seekonk and a Master LS800 at Cut Price in the next couple of weeks. The Caldera for $8200 with light kit(standard w/Geneva), GFCI,delivery, steps, start up chemicals, cover and lifter is the best $ iv'e seen for what looks to be a real quality product. Cut Price quoted me $8800 with everything but light kit(extra $700),start-up kit(extra$99) and no GFCI. I'll make sure I speak to Kristen to see what she can do if the Master wet tests better than the Caldera. If it does't it looks like the Caldera might be sitting in my backyard soon.

Caldera is a great spa, w/ozone system, waterfall, interior and exterior lighting, and they look really nice. You will be really happy. The jets feel great and they always cover everything with the warranty. For the price you mentioned and all the stuff you're getting that's a great deal. good luck what ever you choose.

  3. Don't be surprised by the reaction, dealers hate these. While shopping, I had more than one salesperson launch into a tirade when I mentioned seeing the spa at Costco. Each and every time, after much detailed questioning, the salesperson would finally admit they had never even seen the spa they were trashing! These are far superior to the Image/Welso junk that Wal-Mart and Home Depot sell. Nice quality shell and under the skin, good quality stock components and manifold plumbing. They are a little shy on insulation but that is easy to fix. Having said that, these spas aren't for everyone, but they offer a good value to those willing to forgo the security and handholding that can be provided by a reputable dealer. IMHO.

    NightRyder

I think these spas are for people who are not too concerned with massaging therapeutic jets which I have gotten so used to I wouldn't buy a cheap spa. ( and yes I have tried one of the costco spas that said it had all the bells, not bad tubs) Also I am alot more comfortable if I have a good warranty because everyone who owns a spa is going to need it at some point. I didn't like the look of the costco spa as much as some of the other models, and i like the fact that with most of the bigger companies you get a full manual, pre-delivery & set up instructions the insulated covers that lock down, a GFCI sub panel, and startup kits or steps.

Thats just my personal preference, What ever you buy hope it's enjoyable to all of you.

  4. I don't know of anyone who sells a HotSpring for $2500 more than a comparable Tiger River. $1000 maybe, but $2500, I don't think so.

I think Jim exagerates the differences in prices a little. Jim it would be great if you could not knock down other Spa companies. All every consumer wants is a little advice and knowledge on what is true. Also every Spa company out there has to make a profit. From what I've seen none of them give away a spa. so if you don't like their prices You could buy a cheap spa to last you a few years or build your own Spa.

  5. Ok, from all this reading, here is what I have come up with (and please correct me if I am wrong.) Small things that I shouldn't worry about are things like FF vs. TP insulation and circ pump vs. no circ. pump. Big things to make sure I worry about include reputable dealer, warrenty of brand, price (of course), and most important, results of wet test. Am I missing anthing as far as small things that I shouldn't worry about or big things that I should?

Just because some people have a few negative things to say about some things in a Spa doesn't mean it's true about all spas with those features Ozone sytems are great in my experience I have cut down my chemicals by at least 80% saves me alot of time and money. with a reputable company you know your getting quality parts and products with a company to back it up.

Just remember it's always better to go for the mid range prices and up when comparing and shopping not the cheapest ones. There are alot of very good Spas out there, I personally have heard great things about Hot springs, marquis, bull frog, sundance and Caldera spas. Alot more good than bad. I sell Caldera spas and have alot of very very satisfied customers. Everycompay is going to have to deal with a few broken spas every now and then. The warranty takes care of the rest.

If your choice is Hot Spring or Marquis, go with the Marquis spas. Much better company.

Hot Springs is a great line of spas made by Watkins. So next time u want to give advice Jim just say you prefer Marquis don't lie about them being better than Hot Springs. Marquis is good by the way for all you Marquis fans out there. and no I'm not a Hot Springs dealer nor do I know anyone who sells them I have done alot of research.

  6.

Would anyone know the "etiquette" of comparing bids?

We currently have 4 bids/designs that are similar, but different.

All of which appear to be reasonable and respectable.

Would it be a "breach of etiquette" to show each builder the other

three competing bids/designs? We like the design on one, the rocks/waterfalls

of another, the equipment of the third and the warranty of the last. What better way

than to point at specific things, and say I like this, this and this. It sure would make it

more of an apples to apples comparison.

It seems the more information and research you do...the harder

it gets to compare and choose too?

Thanks for any and all input.

Alot of dealers out there will criticise their competition, and not give you the correct information on other hot tubs. so no I would not give out any information, but rather get as much information as possible from their brochures and websites and go home and compare the prices. In the end it is your decision. I invite my customers to try the spas and give them as much information as I can. If they ask I give them other dealer locations to go to who are the same quality and make them feel comfortable to go shop around.

  7. I have wet tested 3 spas so far and will be wet testing a 4th on Tues. The 3 tested so far were HS Envoy, D1 Chairman 2 and Coleman 481. The 4th will be Master spas LSX. The Coleman was nice but was not comparable to the others, it would have been nice if the dealer had the more comparable model- 705 or 706. The Envoy was a great tub and for me it was great but the lounge seat was too big for my wife and she could not get the benefits of it( a spa pillow would not work since the bend for the legs was too long and her calves were hitting where the back of her knees should have been). The moto massage was much nicer then I expected. The D1 Chairman 2 has the best overall package and fit for both of us. It has a nice lounge and a really nice max therapy seat. The last tub we have to compare is the Master Spas LSX which looks to be comparable to the chairman in size, seating and therapy...I guess only the wet test will tell.

I have not researched the Master Spas much yet. I see that it and the Chairman 2 cover the spectrum of a lot of the debates on this forum, full foam vs polar wrap, UV vs CD ozonation, metal frame vs wood....

The price ranges for all these units are all over the place, $9900 for the highest and $6500 for the lowest. So you can see the dilema of, is the best worth $3400 more. It is amzing how you cannot find pricing for any spas anywhere..makes you a little uncomfortable trying to purchase one. Are you getting a good deal? Some of the pricing starts out at $8500 to $9500 and they will reduce the price down to $7700 to $6500, makes you wonder how much of a mark up is on them. I'm not trying to get something for free but also don't want to get taken to the cleaners. At least when you purchase a car you can find MSRP of it.

Any input to help in the decision, barring sales pitches and my product is best comments, would be helpful. These all appear to be top of the line spas and have established dealers and service in my area.

    Thanks

Have you tried a Hot springs or Caldera Spas. We have a $8000.00 spa with lighting, waterfall, ozone system, 2 pumps, 43 jets. very nice quality spas with a full warranty. lots of models starting at $3000.00.

  8. Tiger River to HOtsprings, California Cooperage to Coleman, as polar to artic or tadpole to bullfrog

Actually it's caldera to Hotsprings. Caldera is pretty much the same quality as a bullfrog, and is made by the same manufacturer as hotsprings all very nice, energy efficient spas with a great warranty package and lots of features to choose from at a very affordable price.

  9. In answer to the question regarding Caldera Spas just some things I have learned over the years.

Caldera Spas are extremely well made, good looking Spas, and have remained one of the most trusted brands for 30 years.

All of the Spas go through rigorous inspections and quality tests, and offer a excellent warranty. Like most good Spa companies out there they have lot's of great features. They offer lots of models starting at a 2 person Aventine up to a full size, fully loaded, 7 person Spa, all at reasonable prices in various colors and seating arrangments. They are equipped with a excellent energy pro circulation and heating system ensuring warm, clean water and a quieter spa at all times saving you money on energy, and preventing heater corrosion caused by improper water quality, which is not covered by most other spa warranties.

They also have Ozone systems saving you time, and hundreds of dollars a year on chemicals.

    Hey Spa Searcher -

    What's your price point?

Last month I narrowed my search down to Sundance or Caldera. I found that for $5600 I could buy a Sundance Bahia and be happy with it, so I did. I also tested Caldera Geneva Utopia ($8500) and Hawaiian Paradise ($7200).

You asked for specifics so here it is:

    - Geneva lounger is deep. People shorter than about 5'5" will need a snorkle (my wife) or a water pillow

    - Hawaiian is great, but not $1700 greater thean the Bahia

    - The low end Caldera tubs (whatever they call them) have a 2 year waranty but the Sundance Bahia has 5

Caldera makes a tub that is about the same as a Bahia, but given the warranty and 2 extra jets we went for the Sundance.

If money was not a factor I would have bought the Caldera Geneva Utopia. Engineering and build quality is better than Sundance and Hot Springs. (moto-massage is weird old technology). My wife would just have to sit on my lap.

    Just my opinion.

I do not agree with the prices you have on here. I wish you had more facts before you had put that up there.

I sell a Paradise Hawaiin for $6599.00 and 9 of my models have a 10 year no leak shell, 7 yearshell surface,

and 5 year no leak plumbing, equipment and controls, and energy pro heating, and 3 year echo tech cabinet

Bahia is not a Geneva or a hawaiin. Geneva is one of our top of the lineFully loaded, very big Spas. There are lots of smaller ones, with loungers that are more suitable for most people. A Hawaiin on the other hand has no lounger, no out side cabinet lighting, no waterfalland is smaller and about $3500.00 cheaper. Hot springs is the higher end of Watkins the same manufacturer that makes Caldera.

The models that have a 2 year warranty are 2 tubs we offer at a very low price, same good quality, But I have not sold any of those tubs at our store yet. when we shopped around all the spa dealers within a 80 mile radious around us we found our prices for the same quality to be very reasonable we hear from customers what the other dealer was offering when the customer comes back after shopping around.
