  1. Do you by chance live in Virginia? I too have a floating liner problem with a pool that is 10 years old. I have tried french drains, in-ground sump pumps, and wells - all at a total cost of about $4000 - and nothing has worked. My pool installer has turned their back on me. Seems pool installers make so much money installing that they won't pay attention to anything else, even if it's the right thing to do. I recently found out that I have a cavity (hole) under the sidewalk and down around the pool wall. I covered the entire area with a tarp and the liner has not floated in situations where in normally would float. I am certain that the cavity is drawing & holding the water that is causing the liner to float. My plan is to put sand into the cavity, which will hopefully solve my problem. If you notice slight holes, burrows or "tunnels" at the edge of your sidewalk, you my have a cavity underneath. If you suspect a cavity, dig down next to the sidewalk and it will show up.
  2. I have a 10 year old vinyl liner inground pool. During the time of ownership, the liner has floated over and over and over. I recently discovered a cavity beneath a 10 foot section of sidewalk around the pool. There is a 6 inch gap between the concrete sidewalk and dirt underneath. The cavity extends down the side of the pool, but I cannot tell how far or how large the hole. When it rains, the cavity draws water deep around the pool and causes the liner to float. I covered the entire area with tarps during rain that would normally float the liner and for the first time we did not float. So...I have to somehow fill the cavity. I hate to bust up the sidewalk. Any ideas?
