  1. We refilled our hot tub to switch from Bromine to the Dichlor/Bleach method (because of my husbands allergy to Bromine). Upon checking the water with my new Taylor K-2006 test kit these were my readings: TA - 160, CH - 120, pH - 8.0. I entered the information into The Pool Calculator and according to it I needed to add 2.4oz of dry acid to lower the pH. We initially added 1 oz and aerated for 30 mins and then checked the pH again and it was still at 8.0, so we added the rest of the dry acid waited 30 mins and checked again, still at 8.0. We have added a total of 4oz so far and it still has not budged!! If anyone can Please tell me what I am doing wrong I would GREATLY appreciate it!!
  2. I will do that!! Thanks a million for your help!!
  3. Thanks Waterbear and Hillbilly Hot Tub for your replies! He breaks out and begins itching immediately after he gets out of the hot tub. I thought it could be the bromine problem also, so i tried to keep the bromine levels more on the low side to see if that was issue. But low or a little higher he still has the same issues. I even insist on the shower and lotion immediately after he gets out, that hasn't helped either. We bought the hot tub after spending some time in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains that had a hot tub. We really enjoyed it and with the time we spent in that one he never had a reaction like this. That is why I wanted to try the Dichlor, I believe that was what they used in their hot tub. I have no experience maintaining Dichlor, does it require the same chemicals as the Bromine?
  4. My husband and I purchased a Hot Tub 9/1/10, since we have had it we have drained it 3 times. Two days after we purchased the Hot Tub one of the motors went bad and had to be replaced, therefore the spa water was not circulating for several days until someone came out to replace the motor (that was the first time we drained the water). About a month later my husband developed a rash all over his body and from reading numorous post and days of research on the internet I deducted it was probably spa itch. We drained the spa again, cleaned everything and refilled it. We use Brilliance Bromine, Oxidizer, and Metal and Scale Control. I also have Ph increaser/decreaser and Total Alkalinity increaser. We test the water daily to make sure everything is at the correct levels. He stayed out of the spa for several days and his rash went away. He started using the spa again and the rash returned, so we drained the spa again and cleaned everything thoroughly yet again. Again he stayed out of the spa and his rash went away, just as soon as he gets back in the spa his rash returns, this time even worse than ever. I am at a lose as to what to do other than trying to switch from the bromine to dichlor to see if that may be the problem. How would I go about switching from Bromine to Dichlor? This is our regular routine for the spa:(This is what we were told to do by the supplier) We have a floater containing the Bromine, we keep it on 3. Once a week I add oxidizer and metal scale control We also have a Spafrog We check the water daily to ensure everything is within the correct range, which it always is. I know this was a very lengthy post, I was just trying to not leave anything out. Any help that you can give us would be GREATLY appreciated.
