  1. I agree with the above. We backed mine into the garage put about 2 feet of water in it (put some jackstands under the trailer to make sure it wasn't too overloaded) and hooked it up to the non-GFI 220 breaker our stove was hooked to. Once it appeared the pumps all worked we went ahead and started running real wiring and setting up the pad for it. Spending all the time and money to setup a possible 'big flower pot' [god, what a great term] only to have a tub that is beyond repair would stink.
  2. Who cares if you 'never see him again'... The person selling the spa doesn't need to be the one to handle warranty claims right? Assuming the spa comes delivered as purchased why not just keep it?
  3. I'm in MI... so probably rain for a month.... then another month of hot and humid weather... which will eventually turn to fall... which will be about when I refill it.
  4. Or is it this? Is FPT the female slip you are talking about? Female Straight Adapter 3/4in FPT x 3/4in Barb Item #: GE04600 Female Straight Adapter 3/4in FPT x 3/4in Barb
  5. Wuice, are you still around here? I have drained my tub for the summer and plan to replace the barb now that its empty. [i did put stuff around it this winter and it nearly stopped it from leaking.] Is this the piece I need? 1 spigot by 3/4 barb pvc 1432-131 This is a 1" Spigot (glues into a socket or fitting) by 3/4" barb fitting. It is also a 3/4" slip socket (3/4 pvc pipe glues into it) by 3/4" barb fitting. It is located o this page: http://flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?cart_id=3573738.2361&product=Barb-Adapters-Slip-Spigot
  6. I drained my tub for the summer last night. I cleaned the inside walls with a bleach based cleaner and got all of the water out of the main area. However, I'm sure there is probably still some residual water in some of the pipes. What should I do now? Should I dump some bleach in? Can I just leave it as is? Sorry for the newbie question, and I did try to do a search but couldn't find anything. [edit - nevermind... after using google search I found that I need to take a wet dry vac and vacuum out the lines.]
  7. Can you explain to me a little more about the diclor then bleach method? Why does switching have an effect and about how much liquid bleach equals about a 1/4 cup of diclor?
  8. So, I bought my tub used. From the day I bought it the back corner seat jets never worked. I just assumed something was broken. [Yeah, you know where I'm going with this.] Well, the other day one of the jets on the front popped out. I was diddling with it (intoxicatedly) trying to get it to spin, I eventually got it popped back in. Sometime after that, I realized that the jet had quit working. What the heck. Did I put it in wrong? So I was contemplating a post on here asking for advice. But Sunday night I (sober) decided to see what I could figure out. So, I popped the jet back out... felt around and realized you can't reach in (I thought maybe something was blocking it.) So then I start trying to gently wiggle the outside of the jet to see if it would pop off somehow. Low and behold a trickle of water comes out. I then slapped my forehead and gave it a twist. DUH! So, I turn off pump 1 and turn on pump 2. Go to the corner thats not working Twist them and NOTHING. I'm like what the heck, I thought I figured it out. I turn off pump 2 and with my head hung in shame and turn pump 1 back on. Viola, the back corner is now working. So, it all makes sense. I bought it from a couple, they sat in the front, and obvoiusly had turned the back jets off. I figured you guys would get a kick out of my woes. [i've had the tub for several months] On a more serious note, I have a 98 Sundance and it has some of the spinny jets, but they rarely ever spin. Is there a trick to making them work like they should?
  9. OK, everyone is freaking about this huge storm system. What happens if the power goes out? How long before pipes start freezing when there is no circulation? I don't have a big enough generator to heat my tub, but I have on that would run a space heater. Can I take a panel off and shove a space heater in there to keep the pipes from freezing?
  10. I opted for Yamaha outdoor speakers. I bought 100 feet of wire and hooked them directly to my indoor surround system. I mounted them in the eaves to keep most of the weather off of them and they work great. It is really nice when I host a party because the same music is inside and out. Now if only I could afford a weatherproof monitor so I could watch the superbowl from the comfort of my tub.
  11. I live in MI and our beer can deposit is $.10 a can. Can't wait to see how many empties are in the yard after the spring thaw. Should help cover some of the electric bill come spring.
  12. Look at the bright side... you have a new deck and all the electrical hookups. Buy a new tub and call it day. Maybe you can cut your loses by selling the new pumps and such on Craigslist or eBay. There is a reason there isn't much of a market for used hottubs.
  13. Whatever I did it was an epic fail on my part. The tub was even worse last night when I went to drain it. I'm thinking lots more shock and a lot more chlorine for this batch of water. It even had some dark looking gunk about he size of a 50 cent peice in one seat. Any idea what I did wrong? I have no idea how it went from clear and beautiful to cloudy and stinky in a matter of days. On the bright side, I had it drained, rinsed out, and filled in just over 2 hours. It was refilled and up to temp about 12 hours after I started draining it.
  14. I wish I wouldn't have bought a bulk supply Chlorine, test strips, ph up and down, alk up and down now. Everything was going so well that I decided to stock up. [Lets just say I hit the $75 dollar free shipping mark.] Just got the box the other day. Ugh. Thanks for all your help... I'll try and stay up on the Sunday night shock, since most of the time my tub is used on the weekends.
  15. Thanks, looks like I'm going to have to buy a CYA test kit. Obviously can't get one today, so I think I'm going to drain and refill tonight. I have family coming over for Christmas and it isn't worth the risk of trying to shock it if its already has to high of CYA.
  16. So, this is my first tub. I filled it about a month ago and it has been spot on for the month. The water has been clear I have been using like a rounded tablespoon of granulated chlorine (spa pure) about every other day. Hardly ever had to add any PH up or down. No foam and clear water and I was thinking I had it all figured out. It had fairly heavy use this last weekend (one 2.5 hour hangover session) then it sat for about 3 days at 102 degrees. I checked it and the cholorine is pretty low but it also got really cloudy and it seemed smelly. I'm assuming I need to dump the water and start over. [i've read about a month is as long as you want to go anyways.] My question is, did I do anything wrong? I planned to dump some shock in it after the weekend but didn't, do you think that would have made it so this didn't happen? Is there any use trying to save the water that is in it? Could urine have caused this? I also fear maybe the nieghbor kids dumped something in it. Opinions?
  17. I mounted these in my soffits pointing down. I have nothing but nice things to say about them. http://www.jr.com/yamaha/pe/YAM_NSAW350_hy_WH/ You can find them cheaper, I made JR price match another site.
  18. It is a 1998 model. I got it for free from a friend. Like I said, I had no clue what the actual costs would be, but I certainly expected the worst after talking to some local owners. If my bill isn't crazy high I'll be real happy. [Heck, I figured heating it from the first fill was gonna cost me at last $30 bucks.]
  19. That's good to know. I've asked several people about the electical costs of theirs and the only common answer I get is 'a lot'. I was expecting at least $100 a month. I honestly had no clue. I think mine has a 4-2 cover. Its about 4" thick in the center then tapers down to 2 or 3 inches. There is some foam sprayed around the tub area but its certainly not 'full of foam' like I've read some tubs are. If my total bill goes up less than $50 I'd be exctatic.
  20. Yeah, I've been reading through a bunch of other threads. Many say it doesn't save a whole heck of a lot. If its $15 a month I'd pay to keep it high. If its $50 a month I'd certainly think it would be worth it to keep it lower. This is my first tub and honestly, I haven't gotten the first electric bill yet... but I'm scared.
  21. So, I'm new to all of this. I have a Sundance Montego and I like to use it at around 106 degrees. I live in Michigan and it gets down in 15-20's at night. Lately I've been turning it down to around 98 during the week when I don't plan to use it then kick it up to 106 on the weekends. Is doing this stupid or saving me money? It usually comes up to temp in a few hours and occasionally during the week I'll bump it up and use it one night then turn it back down. [although I usually only go up to 104 or so.] Would it makes sense to keep it high all the time, take it way lower than 98 when I don't plan to use it for a few days or just keep doing what I'm doing? Thanks
  22. 1998 Sundance Montego tub So, I have a hose leaking. I have pictures. The white hose looks to be glued into a PVC nipple on one side. The other side has a grey connector that connects its to the clear tube. The tub is full, so I want to be able to get all the items I need to fix this before I tear it apart to research the leak. Is there anything special about the grey connector picured? Is it simply a barb type connector? I see someone put some white silicon type stuff around it, is that 'stock' or was that an attemp to fix the leak? I added the two hose clamps and it appears to have slowed it down. The white hose has some extra length, so I could cut it down and reattach if its the hose at fault, but I'm thinking probably the grey connector is cracked or something. [if the connector is special, where can I buy one?] Thanks in advance. Here are the pictures of the leak area. http://www.belome.com/images/hotleak2.jpg http://www.belome.com/images/hotleak1.jpg
  23. The only pins that change the amperage logic are pins 11 and 7, the other ones change a variety of other things. If you start where the number is printed the two pins to the right of the numbers are the 2 pins that go with that number. When a jumper, or that little black plastic box, is installed over both the pins it shorts them together, or turns that block "on". If there is no black box, or if it's only hanging on one of the two pins, then it's "off". 30a = jumper 11 on, jumper 7 doesn't matter 50a = jumper 11 off, jumper 7 off 60a = jumper 11 off, jumper 7 on Don't pull them off any covered pins elsewhere on the board, look for extra jumpers that are only hanging on one pin (storage), otherwise you may need to go find some in the world Awesome, I'll pull 7 and put it on 11... thanks for spoon feeding me.
  24. OK, I finally have the panel opened up and jumpers 5, 7 and 9 are curerntly covered and all others are open. Sorry for acting dumb, but what exactly do I need to do for each configuration? Do I move the one from 9 to 11 to make it 30 amp? [i apologize in advance for not fully understanding your previous post.]
