  1. I'm new to pools and definitely no expert, but the dust might be a sign of early gasket failure on the filter valve. I just set up a 18x33 that was given to us. I got impatient getting the filter fired up and didn't read enough and fired it up without rinsing it first so I managed to blow a cloud of dust into the pool. After allowing it to settle and attempting to vacuum it up, I realized I was getting an immediate cloudy discharge from the return while vacuuming. I was also getting a consistent flow from the backwash port on the valve. I talked to a few people and did a little research and everything pointed to the valve gasket. My filter uses a rotor/gasket assembly (had to buy the whole piece) but there are plenty of units out there that allow for independent gasket replacement. My part was 35.00 shipped but I saw plenty of gaskets online for under 10 and your local pool supply might even have one (just get the filter model#) When I pulled mine the gasket was a gooey pliable mess about the consistency of plumbers putty, while the new one had a somewhat rigid rubber like rope with a fin along the sealing edge. Since you get the dust when the filter operates, you might have a failure that is allowing silt or sand dust from the canister to bypass under pressure to the discharge port. My filter has a recirculate setting that allows water to run straight through the valve, by passing the canister, you might try that if you have the option - if you get any sediment I'd say you have a gasket issue and your dust is sand or filter sediment related. The only other thing I can think of is that you might have a break in the water line in the tank that is allowing pressure to push fine sand dust into the line.
  2. Hopefully the image upload works, this is the sidewall pattern that Leisure Living seems to think will help with identifcation. If you have the same sidewall I'd love to know who manufactured the pool if you know.
  3. Ok, this is my second post. Didn't get much response to the first one but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction with this one. We were given a pool if we would remove it from a residence that was being sold. It had been mostly disassembled, and we were told that we'd get the manual as soon as they found it, but all we managed to get was an old catalog from Leisure Living (www.poolsupplies.com) and were told that is where it came from. I've contacted them and been advised to send a picture of sidewall to help identify manufacturer. The problem I'm having is that the rails and top seats are in 3 different sizes. I've got a compatible number of pieces (no odd pieces or numbers). I've reviewed every manual I can find online and I cannot find anything that shows layout for a 4 buttress (per side)pool with (nominal) 56"-48"-46" sections. The pool is supposed to be 18x33 48" If anyone can help identify or point me in the direction of a manual or manufacturer I'd appreciate any info you might have.
  4. Never mind, I got into physical layout and excavation this weekend and I've actually got the space for the full 33'. After looking at the new liner, it probably wouldn't lay in the shorter configuration without some serious wrinkling anyway.
  5. Hello, long story short, I was looking at upgrading from an Intex to an above ground for my son, when a friend buying a new house offered to let me have an 18'x33' oval at the new property if I'd come take it down. It was installed with an expandable liner (found to be damaged during disassembly) but there was a new 48" liner in box that was coming with it as well as all the tools, toys and some related yard furniture, so it was a no brainer. After carefully cataloging, organizing and storing all the parts and pieces, I began the process of laying out the pool. What I've found is 33' is pushing the limits of the space where the pool will go. After review of the installation process, I've decided it would be better to eliminate one section from the sides, which will result in a 18'x29' pool and give more adequate space to construct a deck and access platform. I'm not too concerned about the excess length of the liner as it's an overlap, but I'm wondering if the additional 4' in length could be utilized in the same fashion as an expandable liner. I'd imagine that true expandable liners allow for extra length all around to accommodate the width and length but I cannot find any actual specs on expandable liners to get a feel for how much. I've got 4' excess length that should be more than sufficient to allow for an additional 1' of depth in one end of the pool. I suppose I could go ahead and excavate a tapered drop and see how it works(can always fill it in) but I figured somebody here might have some clues and examples that might give me some direction. I appreciate any input anyone might have.
