I think getting a used hot tub is a great option if you do it right. I mean why pay for a brand new hot tub when you know the depreciation on it is worse than a car when you walk off the salesroom floor? I recommend trying to find someone who sells used hot tubs in your area (google -> used hot tub colorado). You want someone who has solid repair experience (so they know if there are issues with it) and a good reputation. Usually these guys have already looked over the tub with a fine toothed comb, and only take the good ones to sell to their customers. Also the best used hot tub dealers will give you a guarantee. It's a great way to get a nice tub for sometimes less than half the cost!
