  1. Is some sunscreen or sun tanning oil brands better to use or more user friendly for the pool water then others? If so what should one be aware of or look for? During the swim season should we be testing or adding any chemical to offset the oil that will accumulate in the water? If so what would that be? Does the oilor sunscreen by products have a greater or lesser effect on cartridge or sand filters?
  2. I simply would like to thank everyone for their thoughts. It was very informative and helpful in my decision to hold off at this time. Thanks Again........
  3. Does all UV lights work the same? From a buyers perspective what are things to consider when purchasing a UV system? How does this compare to a Ozone unit? Is one better then the other? With UV does a stainless steel casting have any more effect then a PVC case? My pool is 23,000gals including an over flow spa. Some say there could be a 70% decrease in chemical usage. Being this is the first year being used I have no historical data to compare and not sure what my return on my investment will be if this cost between $750-$1100. Appreciate previous responses and welcome your additional thoughts.....
  4. Would like to hear your thoughts and comments regarding UV Water Sanitiation and Chloramine reduction systems. A local pool supplier is now offering these usnits both for residential and commercial applications. The unit I saw was made by Delta UV. Do you feel these systems are beneficial? What concerns have you seen with these systems? Are they cost effective and how much of a reduction in chemicals could one see? They contend the life exptency of the bulb is every three years for seasonal pools. Look forward toward anyone's thoughts and comments.
  5. Built a new pool last year in fall and installed a Latham Hard Cover. Recently we got hit with over 14" of snow and noticed that the hard cover failed in a section of the pool. Upon checking this out further I found the following: a. The hook from the turnbuckle that goes over the spindle was broken. b. Some straps was frayed and seperated from the hard cover. It's my assumption the weight of the snow was too much for the hard cover. With that said the hard cover is resting on what I believe is the top of the water level which is now frozen. The rest of the cover and turn buckles seem to be still in tact. So with that said what if anything should I do or what other risks am I facing with part of the pool exposed to the elements. Unfortunately upcomming temps are to be subzero for a couple of days. Look forward to your thoughts and comments.
  6. I'm told there are different stlye of solar covers and some are more effective then others. An individual, I met the other day told me he purchased a white solar cover and found it to be alot more effective then a blue typical cover. Could someone help me understand is this possible. Is color or material specifications make a difference in effectivness of heat transfer?. Look forward to your thoughts
  7. In considering a pool heater, I see that Lockinvar surpasses all the main brands with efficeny ratings. Most are around 82% unless you pay for the high efficency models but Lockinvar efficency is noted at 88%. Any comments or suggetions by anyone would be appreciated.
  8. Sorry for my error being new to this forum not entering this in the right area. Looking forward to your thoughts and advise. Were in the process of installing a new 16 x 36 grecian pool. Were considering the spill over Spa or possibly a Cozy cove seat insert. I understand the difference they both offer operationally and also comfort but would like to hear from this group from their experience what they like and dislike of this concept and if there is anything else that should be considered whether style, manufacture, or mechanical layout design. Can a solar cover be used with a spill over spa? Again I appreciate your response... Ed
