  1. I added Alkalinity Balance Control (A.B.C.) last Monday but I still have to add chlorine not only daily, but in larger quantities. I used to put 8 ounces every 2 to 3 days last year. I bought liquid chlorine on Tuesday and it won't stay longer than 24 hours without dropping so low, it barely reads on a test strip. I'm afraid of what will happen if I dare to go away for the weekend. The only real difference I can think of is covering. I would cover the pool faithfully every night last year, but the string pulled away from it over the winter and the crap just falls in anyway when I pull it off so I'm skipping it this season. A close friend doesn't cover her pool, either, a 24'x48", and she isn't having the problems I'm having, so I didn't think that was the problem. Now I'm starting to wonder. I've heard good things about the solar covers but I really do not want a warm water pool. :::sigh:::
  2. PS. I spent over $200 on chemicals to try to get rid of the green last month before I found out that it's less than $50 to refill the pool where I live in Maryland. Sure, it's a pain and there's the matter of scrubbing down the walls and floor after you bail out all the dirty water, but it's totally worth it. Quicker, cheaper and less frustrating than dumping all those chemicals for nothing. I just can't get the chlorine levels to stay up, so if I miss even one testing/adding in a two day period, my water goes cloudy again.
  3. I've completely drained my Intex 15'x48" pool twice now because the water keeps turning emerald green. I can dump twice the normal amount of granulated chlorine and it's gone in less than 24 hours even with a brand new tablet in the floater. My pool only holds 5k gal and the tablets I'm using say put one in for each 10k, so this is ridiculous. I just refilled it yesterday but I'm going to get different chlorine tomorrow. I just read a post here that said there are different types - I had no idea - so I'm thinking that may be the problem. I used a different brand last year and never had anything but crystal clear water. I'll be sure to post after I check into it.
