  1. i think i remember seeing an arctic dealer with the filter you are talking about at a home show. Its not a traditional 'paper' pleated filter but more like a sponge type? this dealer told me it is better than the micropure filters on the market (of course) and filter down to 1 micron, they are meant to be disposed of after use as they cannot be cleaned. I have not personally used one, yet. Your dealer should be able to point you in the direction of a traditional pleated filter and if not, ANY dealer will be able to at least find you one, alternatively you could find one online yourself using your make and model.

    HTH

PS prefilters are really only for people who have discolored water from the tap and even then not required.

  2. in a nutshell, combined chlorine is the free chlorine in the tub that has been 'combined' with a 'contaminate' ie. oil, sweat...whatever, and needs to be oxidized (removed) either by raising your chlorine level to a shock level given your stabilizer level or by using some potassim monopersulfate (MPS).

have you read the dichlor and bleach post by nitro? i think that explains it a bit better than i do.

  3. Thanks for your replies!!

I guess i should have prefaced that by the fact that I know already of the dichlor/bleach, bromine and the MPS&Mineral. I have used all three of those and actually have decided on the mps/mineral with the dichlor/bleach as needed, I love that set-up.

I am not a newbie, i actually work in the industry, just not long enough to know about the many "all in one" really expensive 'kits'.

I was looking for someone who is in the indsutry or who has experience with such 'kits' and has a preference or someone who can just rattle off the ones out there and I can do my research from there.

    Thanks!!

  4. I personally use the nature2 and MPS system for the last 2 months, I do like it, but no it is not 'easy' nor inexpensive. I use my tub quite regularly as well as my young boys. I use about two tablespoons afer use and sometimes more if i have been soaking for awhile. I used the dichlor until my tubs stabilizer level was at 30ppm and now use bleach approxiamtely every 3-4 days. Enough bleach to bring my tub up to 10ppm. I like this method so far but if you are looking for easy and cheap, dichlor and bleach would be the route to take, I also strongly reccomend using borates in your tub so that you are not fighting your pH constantly.

  5. Congrats on purchasing a fantastic hot tub!! the J-280 is sure to give you years of trouble free hot tubbing! (I am a little biased though....)

    1) if your here on this forum why are you even reading what a dealer wrote for instructions? Dont waste your time trying to figure out their instructions, this site has everything you need to maintain your tub VERY efficiently.

2)Are you sure that the 'Shock' is dichlor? it sounds more like MSP

    3) the 'purifier' is a nature2 cartridge, all Jacuzzi dealers have that, we call it the proclear system. nature2 branded that product for us so that it would fit neatly in all 300 and 400 models, 200 models use the same one everyone else uses.

4)Clean button eh? lol, nope, last time I looked at our 280 it had no 'clean' button. Must be a multi-line dealer that also has some tubs with SWCG.

The dichlor and bleach method is a fantastic method, i personally use that method, i also use the nature2 cartridge ( i dont own a jacuzzi yet) and i like it but i dont know if i would use it if i had to pay retail....

    hth.

  6. then i guess you must be jealous that you dont know how to use a strip? You have been brainwashed to believe that their is only one way to test water accuratley enough to do your job, if in fact this is your job. I would put me against you in the field balancing water for actual people, AND talking to them, all day long, i would be far more efficient and far more profitable, you would be too concerned with your righteous attitude.....

  7. I showed up with test strips? really? you were there? lol, i dont know what your problem is quantum but its your problem not mine.

its funny how you can jump to so many conclusions about the 'kind of person' i am based on the 3 or 4 posts i have, your good.

    good luck quantum.

  8. That's quite a pathetic attitude for anyone to have. How would you like it if the professionals serving you had the same attitude? I stand by my statement that you should not be handling chemicals until you are better educated and have a proper test kit, not strips.

Excuse me? wow your a gem eh?

You have absolutly no clue about the tub owner and their 'troubled past'. No I dont care because they DONT CARE!!!!! I was doing what i was told. end of story. he asked for something and he was getting exactly what he asked for. Being righteous is not something i am allowed sometimes, in case you missed it, i am an EMPLOYEE. If you care to really have the entire long drawn out story, then by all means pm me, i would rather not dwell on the shear number of complete idiots that appear to be breathing our air or sharing their intelligence with others.....

My only concern was MY HEALTH, not some douche bags hot tub....like i said, I FULLY REALIZE ALL THE RAMIFICATIONS OF WHAT I ADDED TO THIS GENTLEMANS HOT TUB, BUT COULD ALSO NOT CARE LESS.

I appreciate the reply/links Richard, and I didnt post over their because their seems to be more traffic on the hot tub side here. I also wanted to check this place out.

    I will go home now...

  9. thank-you for your reply quantum, although you never answered my question.

I assure you I have a VERY SOLID grasp on water chemistry, all pool season i have been at TFP, I have owned my own hot tub and pool for over 6 years now, I am posting here now because the Spa forum over there sucks honestly. I did not create this post to discuss chemistry, i posted it asking about health issues.

I fully realize ALL the ramifications of what i added to this gentlmans tub, but i could also not care any less.

I am asking about health concerns. Putting that much chlorine in a tub and having it not register must mean something pretty nasty is going on in there?

Please elaborate on the very serious health concerns you mentioned.

    Thank-you.

  10. I am the 'water boy' for our dealership, recently appointed. We started offering a monthly, biweekly or weekly hot tub balance/sanitize.

I just finished doing one new customers tub, honestly the water was clear when i arrived. I checked for pH and it was high, balanced that. Added Borate and balanced that. Added the stain/scale and clarifier. Next was the chlorine...... 1 capful, nada. 2 capfulls nada. 5 capfulls..... I ended up adding an entire bottle, 700g, then on the strip it read between 5 and 10, added some MSP.

my question, the fumes coming from that tub kinda made me noxious afterwards. what are the health issues surrounding what I am doing?

After i have finished that initial visit, it is very easy, but that first one is a killer and i do not want to end up with some weird infection.

    Thanks in advance.
