  1. I turned the valve that was zip tied and it immediately start to cavetate the pumps. I guess it is a main shut off valve for both the pool and the spa?
  2. Ok...You were right on all counts. I moved the valve that was seperate from the 3 and it controls the flow to the pool or the spa. I turned off the skimmer and the pool drain and just left open the spa drain and it seems to isolate the spa. Now the only problem is the spa is still draining (slowly) into the pool. Over the course of an hour or so it drain about a foot to a foot and a half. Any Ideas as to how to stop the spa from draining? Also you said I will need some fresh water from the pool into the spa. Which valve do I leave partially open? The skimmer valve maybe? The valve that is zip tied is on the pool side of the control valve that controls the flow to the spa or the pool or both. If I turn it to operate just the pool then the valve is zip tied on that side.
  3. Thanks...I will play with it today. The other day I managed to Isolate the spa from the pool but I noticed after an a few minutes that the spa was draining into the pool. The water fall was turned off at that point. As for the heating question I was told that the heater was for the pool but never used. I cant tell what BTU it is but it is really big. I will take pics today and provide more details. I am still in the process of unpacking and settling in so just messing with this in my spare time. thanks for the help
  4. Hi guys, I wondering if you guys could help me out. I just bought a house with a pool spa combo with a spa overflow feature into the pool. It has 3 valves that are labeled spa drain, pool drain, and skimmer. It has another valve seperate from the rest that seems to control the spa overflow feature and another valve next to it that has zip ties on it (dont touch I guess?). I see 3 pumps one definitley goes to the pool spa combo, one goes to the spa jets, and i think the last one goes to the pool cleaning robot. My question is how do you isolate the spa from the pool so that I can heat the spa and not the pool. Also is this feasible with a natural gas heater? Would it be cost efficient to do it this way. I would guess that the spa is about 400 gallons and the pool is probably 12,000 gallon or so. If I can get this working then I will have a custom cover made to fit the spa to keep the energy costs down. Thanks for any help that you can give
  5. Your HotSpring Sovereign has a 24 hour recirculating pump that keeps the water flowing through the heater when the jets are not on and is really well insulated. This keeps the tub at constant temperature that is preset by you. If you have the spa set up on 110v power source then the heater shuts off when you activate the jets. If you have the spa set up on 220v then the heater stays on even when the jets are activated (which is not necessary in Florida). As long as you keep the spa covered when not in use it will always be ready for you to use. I love my Sovereign and keep it at a constant 105 on 110v power source in Alabama.
  6. Sounds like the heater went out...I would unplug the heater from the control box and power it on. If it stays on then the heater is at fault and needs to be replaced.
  7. Thanks for the info...getting it out was what puzzled me because I didn't see any screws holding it in. Once I got it out I checked it out inside and all the black inserts to the buttons are falling apart. You are definitley right that there are no user serviceable parts inside so a new one is in order but after being an electronics tech for the last 15 years I guess it just comes naturally to me to want to fix it.
  8. Are you talking about the "Auxillary" control panel on the inside of the spa vs. the main control panel on the front? If the Aux pad is not working then you need a new one, there is no fixing the old one. Yeah the one inside the spa...It has never worked since I bought it. It is the only thing left to fix to make the spa perfect. Why can it not be fixed? And how do you remove it to put in a new one?
  9. Any body know how to remove the auxillary control on a 1998 Hot springs Sovereign? Mine does not work and I just want to see if I can get it working without buying a new one. Thanks
  10. If you decide on a new spa will you sell me your filter lid cover?
  11. I bought mine for my Sovereign on EBAY for 299.00 with shipping included. 5" to 3" Taper, steam stopper, galvanized steel inserts excellent quality and a 5 year warranty. I believe the store was called riverview coin. All the covers are custom made to your order. I am very happy with mine. Look them up and see what you think.
  12. Mine did the same thing (its a 1998). I isolated the problem to the heater. Also ordered the new heater from ebay (pool store) 185.00 and it works great. Bought new sensors for about 15 dollars each from a local store (recommended when you put a new heater in) but be careful not to over torque the plastic ends they break easily. All in all a pretty easy job. Im not sure if a 1996 is different from a 98 but I bet its just as easy.
  13. That didn't work out so hot they wanted about $500.00...Maybe the online sites aren't so bad. That doesn't sound possible that anyone would charge that much. There has to be some confusion on someone's part to get a quote like that. $435 dollars plus shipping and handling They probably think you need a vinyl cover. Yeah your right they did quote me on a vinyl cover...I called them back and they said it's about $200.00 delivered but they weren't even sure if they could get them anymore.
