  1. Thank you for your response Chem Geek Here is a long story of the spa: A little has happened since my last post. I ended up adding ph down and walked away. I should note that the spa is one month old, 300 gal, and has an Ozonator. When I bought the spa it came with ClearWater. I followed the instructions and everything seemed fine for a week until the water got a slight green tint to it. I looked on line and most of the posts were saying it’s either too much copper in the water or algae. I assumed it was too much metal and added a metal remover and spa clear. The water cleared up a little so I kept at it. After reading a few posts on this forum I decided to not use ClearWater and I bought a bromine feeder and tabs. The water cleared up a little from the bromine, but my bromine levels kept dropping. After reading one of the spa maintenance posts on here about new spa and draining the water after the first month I did so. I took out the filter and added spa flush. A little while later a 2 inch thick layer of foam grew on top of the water it was dark green. It wasn’t until that moment that I knew it wasn’t copper turning the water a slight green tint, but algae. I ran the jets on high for an hour and then low for the rest of the night. The next day I drained the spa to about 20% and cleaned the inside of the spa with 6% Clorox bleach. I used the rest of the spa flush bottle and dumped it and some bleach down the filter intake. I then drained the remaining water while running the hose to flush the piping system. I filled the tub to 60% added some more bleach and turned on the jets. After running the jets for 20 min I drained the spa. While the spa was draining I kept filling the filter intake with clean water. This is where the first post picks up. Short story: Today when I checked on the spa the stats were: Ph 7.2 Ta 24 Br 8.2 Ca 10 Th 115 Temp 102 There was a light brown ring around the tub. I wiped it up and it looked like someone had taken a finely ground up sand/powder and added it to the top of the water. With the jets on high it collects with the bubbles. I’m assuming that it is dead algae that I didn’t get fully removed from draining the tub, does that sound about right? You can only see it when the bubbles from the jets collect on the sides of the spa. Other than that the water is crystal clear. My Sanitizer levels are extremely high. So I flushed about 100 gal of water out of the tub in hopes of lowering my sanitizer level and getting rid of whatever this light brown sand/power is. After flush the stats were: Ph 7.7 Ta 43 Br 4.0 Ca 5 Th 88 Temp 88 I added some more non-chlorine shock and some calcium. Any idea if I’m correct that this finely ground up sand/powder is dead algae that didn’t get flushed the first time I drained the tub? Brown sand/powder Water today Water last week
  2. Hello, This is kind of a dumb question, but I want to make sure I get things right. After reading a few posts on there about initial startup procedures and maintenance I want to make sure I get things done right the first time. My fill water read: Ph 6.7 Ta 20 Ch o Fc o Tb 0 Ca 0 Th 0 Temp 56 First thing I did after filling was to add my bromine feeder, shock to start to rase my ca to 20-30, and sodium bromide. 15 hours later: Ph 6.9 Ta 10 Ch 3 Fc 3 Tb 3 Ca 0 Th 0 Temp 94 I started to add calcium and am at 100 where I want to be. However as I tried to rase the ta to 80 the ph went up. When the ta was 30 the ph was 7.3, ta 40 ph was 7.6 Right now the ta is 50 and the ph is 8.0. Should I add ph down and keep adding ta up until hit 80ta and a ph of 7.6? Or just keep ta at 40 so the ph drops to 7.6. The jests have been running on high for the last two hours as I add the calcium and ta plus. I'm guessing the ph will drop a little as soon as the aeration stops. Sorry for the dumb question I just want to get things done right.
