  1. Alas, this tub came with a house that I bought. As far as I understand it, the warranty is only valid for the first owner. I'll definitely at least *try* to get "warranty" service for it first. But I'm assuming I'll get shot down. Haven't called the dealer yet. And yes, I've taken the battery out for long periods of time and reinstalled. One of the "weird" things is that as soon as power is restored, the behavior resumes, without any of the normal "boot up text" that gets displayed when you reset it when it's functioning properly. Which leads me to believe that maybe there's a hardware "display test" pin that's been shorted out by water, or something.
  2. I have a 2017 Vanguard NXT. The wireless remote control for it has had some water intrusion or something for some time (the LCD has some discoloration that shifts around over time). But it was working fine, function-wise. Well, today it stopped working. It's now stuck in a continuous "display test" mode where it shows all red pixels for one second, then all green, then all blue, then all white, then a checkerboard pattern, then a finer-grained checkerboard pattern, then black... repeating over and over again (I might have the order slightly wrong). Holding a finger press on the screen, to try to reboot it, does nothing at all. Doesn't matter how long I hold it, nor what part of the screen. Taking the battery off, then reinstalling, results in it *immediately* starting the same cycle (no boot-up text displayed or anything). I've googled the hell out of this problem. I can't find anyone describing the same thing. Anybody seen this before? Or have any ideas for further/harder resets? Or am I just stuck buying a $600 replacement remote at this point? Does anyone know how to non-destructively disassemble it? I could at least see if I can dry it out, if that's the problem. I'm wondering if a diagnostic testing pin got shorted to ground or something, given how quickly it starts into the color cycle upon powering up.
  3. I bought a used 2006 Hot Springs Grandee. The prior owners had it partially-sunk in a wooden deck. They painted the (redwood) cabinet gray, to match their deck -- but they only painted the portion that was above-deck. So I have a half-gray, half-redwood spa cabinet. Is it a good idea to try to apply paint thinner and strip the paint? Or am I better off just painting over the whole thing? Anyone have experience with this?
  4. We just bought and fixed up a used 2006 Hot Springs Grandee. I'm bummed after delivery to realize that the stock manufacturer cover folds such that the Cover Cradle II is "officially" only supported when mounted to the side of the tub (when looking forward at the control panel). We'd much prefer the cover to fold in the other direction, and to mount the Cover Cradle on the "back" of the tub (the far side from the control panel). Does anyone know if the Grandee's cabinet will support that? And does anyone have any tips on after-market cover manufacturers who will both make a cover that folds in the other dimension AND insert the right metal lugs into it to support the Cover Cradle? Thanks, --Michael
  5. We just bought a used 2002 Vanguard a few weeks ago, and have had it running with no problems until the last few days. Independently: 1) It stopped heating. The water gets up to only like 87 degs or so (presumably from the heat of the circulation pump and nothing else). I've tried resetting the breakers, and when I poke around in the pump compartment and take off the cover to the electronics, the top two lights are lit (one says "heater"). I felt for and found a little red "reset" button on the top of the no-fault 6000. It's underneath plastic (waterproofing?) tape, and is not popped up. It doesn't feel "pressable." 2) It's leaking! Several days after it stopped heating, last night we had near-freezing temps come through for the first time this season (San Jose area). This morning there was even ice on top of the cover. But more importantly, poking around I discovered that the PVC where you hook up a hose to drain the spa has some kind of crack, probably caused by expansion from freezing last night? If I push on the PVC, water comes out through the crack. Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to replace this part? Am I safer leaving the tub with (~87 deg) water in it tonight, or trying to drain it to prevent further damage? Am I crazy to pursue repairs of any of the above myself, or should I just call the dealer and pay them to come out or something? (do they do that for older tubs that weren't purchased directly from them?) Thanks! --Michael
