Did the tub have water in it, or was it completely dry?
If you don't want to do a full Decon., you should still give it a good shock (20-30 ppm), and let it sit a few days before using it. Then, on your next refill do a Spa Flush. That will really clean the pipes out.
After doing a shock, check your Chlorine Demand (CD) (see below). It should be around 25% (assuming you don't have an ozonator). If it's higher than 50%, I would seriously consider doing a Decon now. Just my opinion.
Yeah the spa was empty and as it turned out unused for around 7 years. I did a full clean/fill cycle etc and everything appears good.
Throwing a tablespoon of MPS in before use and a little lithiumhypochlorate after each use (and once a week) seems to keep everything where it should be.
