I have an 18' above ground pool. This is the vacuum method that I have tried. All works well except after 30 seconds or so the suctions stops. I then have to unplug hose to let the pump start circulating again. Am I doing something wrong?

is a 1HP pump ok for an 18" filter?

My current 18" sand filter just cracked on me..... I have a lead on a cheap 22" sand filter? Is it wrong to move to a bigger filter? I have a 1HP pump and an 18' above ground pool? Thoughts?
