Hi~ been lurking for about a week now and enjoy the site. Looks like alot of knowledgable people. Love getting other people's opinions, sharing stories, projects ect.
A little about me......I decided to have an early mid life crisis, and quit my job shortly after my son was born and returned to School. I have always wanted to fly Helicopters, so I am persuing it......and we are pretty much broke from the cost of training.
I had a small portable colman spa several years ago. I don't remember the model or anything....it was basic......round 110v spa, really no contour in the interior. Just had a bench all the way around inside with a few jets. It was great....did what we wanted it to do. Back then we were rarely ever home so maintain or use it. There was several times I opened it up and it was pretty foul......LOL We eventually got rid of it and have been without until last week.
I'd been looking for a used spa.....cheap......cuz we don't have much extra money. I found a few on Criagslist.....but they were either to junked, or the people flaked out (most likely some scam.) I mentioned to my mom that we were looking and if she heard of one let us know. She told me if I was serious....to come get the one off her back patio....cuz she never uses it and is tired of maintaining it and paying electricity to run it.
RIGHT ON MOM!!! I called a bunch of buddies and set up a date and time to have the muscle there to move it. I went to my mom's and looked to see what might become problems....ect......trying to "plan" the move. After the spa was put in, they added on a terrace out on the patio. Just the way it was set up, it was gonna be a pain in the ass to get it out. On top of that, the land scaping is mature and done now......wasn't when the spa was put in. So it was gonna have be to be carried quite a ways to get to the trailer. I called our local HOTSPRINGS store and asked what they would charge to move it. They quoted me $300. OMFG......thats steep. I decided us guys would just do it...even if it took forever to get them all lined up at one time. Long story short......never happened......so I went to the store to buy the plug cover and to schedule it. He quoted me $250 and scheduled it. We really don't have a lot of spare room around the house......so I had it put out next to my detached garage. The pad was a little small so a few days before the spa came, I added some pavers to the pad. I also rewired the plug so it was on its own 20amp dedicated circuit 110v.
(I do have plans to eventually get 230v to it....but that cost money. I had the breaker and stuff already to do the 110 dedicated circuit)
So.....Its here......I'm sure I'm gonna have a million questions. I've already found alot of info searching around. I'm sure more will come up and hopefully you guys can help me!!
Here is what I know:
1997 Hotsprings Jetsetter, 3 persons, 215 gallons currently wired 110
Ozone is out not working (hotsprings checked it last november at my mom's place)
redwood siding is in need of help
Just replaced a couple jets, new dishwasher safe filters (they were pretty dirty.......bad mom for not taking care of her stuff!!! LOL)
New control board installed in November
Hotsprings quoted me $305 for the new ozone.....me installing it. Damn....they are pround of their stuff. I have looked and seen alot on ebay and spa web sites for a third of the price. Saw one on ebay for 60 bucks......... I'm not to sure about this spa stuff....but looks like they are pretty much universal. Any info on that would help!! I have had to add chemical to it every day........so definitly gonna fix the ozone.
The redwood needs to be sanded down and restained. Has anyone done this? Suggestions on stain? I was thinking I could kilz primer it and paint it too........I'm open for suggestions.
Here are some pix. I'd love to hear from other people that have had or do have jettsetters.......anything to look out for in general.......ideas, comments, suggestions......I'm open to all. I'm located in Arizona......HOT........and nasty sun to damage anything outside.
I have used it the last two nights......it seems to hold temperature pretty good. Is their any other advantages to going 230v othe then faster heating? I'm not sure at this time if I need to worry about converting it........Unless it starts getting cold during use.
Look forward to some replies.
