  1. I explained Decontamination in your Algae Post. It's basiclly Super Shocking your tub to kill off anything that could be growing in it. If your tub was sitting all summer with water in it, you definitely need to decontaminate. Even if you drained the tub, there still was water in the pipes, which would have built up some funky stuff. I would decontaminate either way. The question is, did you drain the water before letting it sit all summer? A metal sequester will bind with the metals in the water, and prevent them from forming stains. However, it won't remove the metals. I don't know of any way to remove the metals, other than not put them in to begin with. That's why I recommend using a pre-filter. A great way to remove metal is to use a water softener. However a water softener will also remove Calcium (hence the reason why the water is softer), so you'll have to add it back. I don't know what type of metal sequester your local Spa store/dealer has in stock (there are many), but they can provide you with one. What type of pH test kit did you get? I hope it's a drop test kit such as Taylor's. You really need a drop test kit to test pH and TA. Test Strips will not give very useful results, making it much harder to maintain your water. Hi Yes it is a drop test kit, the tub was drained last summer, but of coarse there is always a little water left in it, so I will definately super shock it before I do anything else. Where do I pick up the filter for a hose? I have never seen one before? We are getting a water softner installed because our shower heads keep cloging.
  2. What is step 5? Decontaminate how? and what is a metal sequester? Do you have a name brand ? I recently got a new PH test kit. I think you are going to save my tub!! Thanks!!
  3. My PH is 8.5, calcium 71.5, copper 0.0042, iron 0.046, lead0.0010, magnesium 19.1. I'm not sure what these numbers mean, but everyone i talked to said that the chlorine in reacting to the metals, the water isn't cloudy only when i added shock to it.
  4. Hi I posted earlier about the possibility of having algae in my spa, thank you for your help with that, it is wonderfull information, since then I decided to experament, I filled a glass with tap water and a glass with bottled water then added chlorine to both, the bottled water looks chrystal clear and the tap water turned YELLOW! I added shock to the tap water glass ant it turned it into a clowdy milky lellow color just like my spa is right now! What should I do, I obviousally have a issue with my water, we are on community water not a well, the only info I have to offer is that I need to use clr ON MY SHOWER HEAD QUITE OFTEN BECAUSE A WHITE BUILDUP CLOGS THE HOLES. Is my chlorine reacting to something in the water??
  5. HELP!!! I have a spa approx. 3 years old, I have tried everything!!! The water turns yellow (slightly brown), and cloudy after I add chlorine. A thick yellow slimmy ring forms along the waterline, you can't see through the water to the bottom of the tub, when I shock it it seems to thicken the particals in the water and turns even darker yellow/brown. I used every cleaner known to man when flushing the pipes, i notice that only the sections of pipes clean off where the water is pressured against it ( outside corners, bottom, egtc.) the sides and top of my pipes are coated with a yellowish greasey film. I don't know how it got here?? We only use the tub, always clean and rinse our short before entery, the tub was off all summer and i was wondering if maybe I ended up with some crazy algae or fungas that is now spread throughout the pipes?? I think something is seriously wrong because it has never done this before!! I added chlorine to a glass of water (same water i used for the tub) and it did not change colour, so, I think I have a serious problem!!! Please can anyone help me in the right direction!!! I don't know what to do??
