  1. Anyone know of such a thing? I have never heard of an LED that can be dimmed>? Our LED light system is dimmable. It has 3 levels of brightness and then OFF. Anne
  2. How exciting! Looks great! And great that they gave you lots of chemicals. I was happy we got a tote of em when ours was delivered. It helps out to get you started. Enjoy! Anne
  3. Hey, we drained our tub last night after our soak. And this morning, we got up and cleaned it out, we've had this stubborn film at the waterline. We used softscrub as recommended by manufacturer. It worked pretty well, with some elbow grease. We had to remove 3 jets and soak them in vinegar to remove some debris keeping them from rotating freely. So, we filled and then added all the startup chemicals. And by the time we got in this evening, it was heated up! The water was nice and clear again too! And then after we got out, we put the dichlor in like one of the gurus here suggested, instead of MPS. We're going with that instead of the low chlorine method. Hopefully the water will last the 3-4 months like it's supposed to this time now that all the initial stuff has all been cleaned out of the system. Thanks guys for all your advice. So much for what the dealer suggested. It might work for those who don't use their tub every night. Anne
  4. Heres something for you to try Anne. When you first fill your tub throw 3 TBLS (Tablespoons) of dichlor in and let it heat. When you feel like it, take a soak. When you are done soaking put 1/2 tsp (teaspoon) per person in and test your chlorine 1/2 hour later to see where that gets you. You may need more or less depending on your results but you need 3-5 PPM after your soak. Now you can balance your water with up or down whatever it takes but if you make any adjustments wait a day inbetween making another adjustment. If you soak don't forget to sanitize with dichlor to achieve that 3-5 PPM level. Every 3rd or 4th soak use MPS at about 2 ozs. after your soak and make sure to stir the water up good for 10 minutes, do the same when you add dichlor, stir the water good after you add it. Now, when you have about 10-12..... 2 person soaks under your belt, bring your PPM of chlorine up to 10 PPM or better with about 6 times what your daily addition turns out to be. I used to actualy use both dichlor and MPS to shock at about 3 times the daily amount or 2 TBLS and 1 oz of MPS. Stir the water good and let it rest for a day. Then back to your additions after your soak. Drain every 3-4 months and your water will be clean and clear when you drain. Of course if you add people or have a party you may have to prematurely shock or add extra dichlor. I'm not saying this is the only way to do it but any of my customers who ask me I steer them this way and it always works. Treat sanitation as a completely different deal as water balance and the 2 will come together. You will learn that what you add to sanitize effects your water balance and you will learn how it effects your water balance. After a while you will know, because of your sanitation routine that your PH is low or high after a certain time frame and needs to be raised or lowered depending on your water. Most likely raised as dichlor contributes to lowering your PH and MPS has the same effect. Thank you! I think we'll try this way. And it still sounds like if the 1/2 tsp per person per use per soak turns out to be the magic number, we will still be using very little chlorine. A larger amount here or there for a "shock" isn't bad. I'll print out your instructions and tape them above our chemical box. You know, even when we use chlorine, we don't have the heavy smell from it, not what I expected. I read the back of the chlorine container this evening after our soak and went with the superchlorination route which was 2tsp per 100 gallons of water=6 tsps. We're just trying to get by until Saturday when we dump. And then we'll follow the start up directions and the chemical recipe they outline to startup. Then we will do what you said and test to see how much chlorine is right. I so appreciate all your info, Roger, Nitro, and Flyonthewall! It's such a help. We just want our tub to last long and be healthy and because of our daily use, the low chlorine use just isn't working. I'm sure it works for some. Sailing Faith, sounds like you love the hottub lifestyle too! My parents bought a Jetsetter and love theirs'. They have triple the filtration as we do and I think it helps a lot. That's one thing that may not be as good in the Limelight, but the filter definitely picks up a lot of stuff and we clean it every other week. Hey, Gurus, what do you have to say about having a spare filter so you can clean one and set it aside and use the other and then alternate each cleaning? Is this important? Well, we still feel our tub is low maintenance and there's nothing like the feeling of getting out all relaxed and sleeping well!! Totally worth it!!! Anne
  5. I'm sorry, the scoop we use is 5 tsp. and they told us to use a 1/2 scoop of MPS after each use and a 1/4 scoop a dichlor once a week. So, that would actually be 1 1/4 tsp, wouldn't it? Anyway, regardless, it's not working very well, is it? So, they told us to use 1/2 scoop of dichlor to get rid of the smell and clean the filter, which I did. And then told us we could use 1/4 scoop of dichlor as needed instead of MPS. We've been doing that instead. We were told one container of chlorinating granules would last us about a year, well, we're more than halfway through it already. I hope when we refill and start over that we don't get into this again. And I think we'll be chlorinating more frequently that suggested. But now that I know what you guys have told me, I'll be doing things differently. Oh, hey, can ph being off be part of the reason for the smell? I forgot to test one week as I usually did weekly, and so went about a week and a half between testing. The alk and ph was off. I got it all balanced out and that was right after the smell started. Well, anyway thanks for the info. We'll be draining and starting over and hopefully we can do better the second time around. Anne
  6. So, we hoped our water would last 4 months, but it's gotten sudsy despite being careful and we can't shake the musty smell , yuck. It's not nice to get out and have your skin smell like must or mildew. We went by the tech support's suggestions to use a 1/4 scoop( 2 1/2 tsp.) of clorinating granules to shock and then we just used it after each use as well for a couple of days and then back to MPS. We've kept a close eye on chemistry, but to no avail. Still smells. So, after seeing our waterbill didn't go up from the original fill(despite the idea that we don't really want to waste water), we're going to start over. Also, we've had a build up of film at the water line. So, oh well. Hey, good news about our power usage! Our bill came today and we can't see any difference in our bill between this year's usage and last year at this time. Now, actually we were using more power last year at this time due to heavy heater usage. It's not a perfect way to tell, but we're happy with the results. The PUD told us the average cost of hot tub usage per month is about $10-20 per month. We feel like we've got a well insulated tub and it's not going to cost more than we expected. Hey, also, the dealer we bought from gave us $75 in store credit for referring my parents to them and they gave us and extra$25 in credit for filling out a survey. Then they've had a sale on their products and we got more for the money! So, we stocked up! One thing we got was a couple of scumbugs which just float around in t he tub and absorb lotion and soap and "scum" and then you just rinse it out. A great little product! So, that's that! We love our tub! Anne
  7. No, we don't use N2, I don't know what that is. We have a HS limelight tub with ozone and the silver ion cartridge in the filter. I have been going by the directions given to us from the dealer. They say to use MPS after each use and dichlor once a week when we test to make sure everything is at the right level. We've used the tub nightly and suitless, except for a couple of times when friends have gotten in with us. My friend uses one of my suits which is never washed, only rinsed. Somehow though we've had soap introduced into our tub. I wondered if the "floc" meant that it binds together to filter out. So, that explains the floaty stuff. Today, I cleaned the filter and my husband skimmed what stuff was left in the weir out. I also added a shot of dichlor to see if we can kill that smell. No, I do not think it was algae. There's no way it would have magically appeared within a matter of minutes. So, I think we'll add dichlor twice a week and see how that goes. Thanks for explaining how the defoamer works. It makes sense. Anne
  8. Have you shocked it during your 7 week honeymoon? If not I would say with the heavy use during the first weeks of your ownership you most definetly need to shock and it should be done after about every 5-10 soaks depending on how many folks and how dirty said folks are. Those funny flakes are probably the coagulated soap residue and stuff and are in your filter and it needs to be rinsed. It should be rinsed every week. Those flakes could be soap. If they look like you put instant potato flakes in your spa, it is most likely white alage. If that is the case super chlorination would help. It may take a while for all the groth to break free from the plumbing so you may see it for a while. Also clean your filter daily until it is all gone. We "shock" once a week without fail with dichlor and we use MPS shock after every single use. We both shower before each use, but we've had friends get in a couple of times without showering so they may have had lotion or soap on them. But I accidentally dipped my towel in the tub several times as I was getting out and I'm sure that left soap in the tub. I just cleaned the filter a couple of days ago which I do every 2 weeks, more often than suggested in our manual. I'd be surprised if that was white algae as it was not in the tub right before I dumped the defoamer in there. I know I need to clean the filter today as I'm sure there's a lot of residue in there. Thanks! Anne
  9. Hey, here's a question... We've had foam start building even with being careful about getting soap in our tub. So, we bought some SeaKlear self-floccing defoamer, and a "scumbug". Right before we got in the tub this evening, I added the defoamer and threw in the scumbug. The water was crystal clear right before I did this and then we got in a couple of minutes later, and there were these little white floaty things. I'm pretty sure the scumbug didn't have anything that might come off. So, does the defoamer cause this? After we got out, I added the MPS shock as usual and ran the clean cycle. When I shut the tub up, the water was clear again. But what is this stuff? Is it the defoamer combining with the residue to filter it out? Anyway, it was weird. The other thing is that our water is starting to smell what my husband is calling "stale". I'm not sure I'd call it that. What can we do about this, or do we need to just drain the tub? It's only been just about 7 weeks. Would a super chlorination treatment help with this? Well, any input and suggestions would help. Anne
  10. Are you talking about the "clean cycle"? Or the circulation pump? Or something else? Yeah, we had a faulty light circuit and they came promptly and replaced it for us. We are so very happy with our tub. Though I went and tested out my parents HS Jetsetter and the "moto massage" was heavenly! Though, it's too small for us and the Envoy, and Sovereign didn't have the other jets in the right place for us, not to mention the cost. I can go use their tub when I want a change, but I still love ours. Anne Sorry about my terminology as I am still trying to learn it all. I was talking about the spinning circulating jets that you are supposed to turn on and off with the outer rim. It depends on what pumps are on. And in your manual it tells how each pump works and which diverter controls which jets. If it doesn't seem to be working the way it says it should, then it's time to call the dealer. Anne
  11. Are you talking about the "clean cycle"? Or the circulation pump? Or something else? Yeah, we had a faulty light circuit and they came promptly and replaced it for us. 12. Were you given a manual from the "setup guys"? It should show you how to use the control panel in pretty plain english. I have a HS Limelight which has a pretty similar control panel. If we touch any buttons on it, and then exit back out, it will show the temp for a moment and then go to just the "ready" and "power" lights on the display. Try this, but read the manual, it should tell you wuite a bit about your tub; i.e. which valves control which jets, how all the jets work, lighting, troubleshooting, water chemistry, etc. Congrats on your new tub!! How exciting! I know we were so stoked to get in our tub that first night, 4 weeks ago as of tomorrow. We find we're addicted to it, and we've used it every night since. It's our little vacation every day! Anne
  13. Yeah, with peroxide, what can you do with it if you need? Otherwise, thanks all of you for your valuable info! It's helped. We're using what seems to be the right amount of dichlor given that it's two of us who shower right before we get in and we are suitless ! So, this should work until we get MPS. And I'll be gone for the weekend so it should only be my husband using it, well, unless he has a raging party while I'm gone and invites his mistresses over . I'll test tomorrow before I go, as it will be time to check everything. Thanks again! Anne
  14. It's more like 1 teaspoon of Dichlor = 2 teaspoons of MPS which is 2/3 of a tablespoon. And yes, one tablespoon is 3 teaspoons. To get to 10 ppm FC in a 350 gallon spa should only take 5 teaspoons which is a little less than 2 tablespoons. If it took 3 tablespoons for you, then perhaps your Dichor is very granular so not as dense. Most Dichor has roughly 1 fluid ounce (2 tablespoons or 6 teaspoons) weigh approximately 1 ounce. One cup of Dichlor should weigh roughly 8 ounces or 1/2 pound. If you have a postage or food scale, you can see if this is true for your Dichlor. It's also possible that your Dichor isn't pure (check the ingredients). As for MPS, 1 fluid ounce of volume (2 tablespoons or 6 teaspoons) should weigh 1.36 ounces so one cup of MPS should weight about 10.8 ounces. Again, this is something you can check. In Europe, most food and chemical measurements are done with weight using scales because that's far more accurate since the density of various products can vary. The rules of thumb I use are for typical product, but the specific products you use may be different. Richard Wow! That was a lot of info and some went over my head. We use Spa Essentials. It's what the dealer gave us. And we use the scoop they give us which is (I believe) 5 teaspoons. They gave us instructions using the scoop. So, they'd tell us 1/2 a scoop of MPS after each use. 1/4 scoop of Chlorine once a week. Anne
  15. I need to find the topic from about a week or so ago when one of the "gurus" told how much dichlor to add per person per use. I guess I need to go back and search. I did put in the 1 1/4 tsp of dichlor this evening after our use. I hate that smell! But tomorrow it will be gone anyway. And in a couple of days we'll have more MPS. I think that's the biggest benefit I like about using MPS instead of dichlor, the fumes, or lack there of. Chlorine gives me a serious headache. For now it's what we've got. Anne
  16. I guess what I can stress is what others have already mentioned; shower before you go in to remove all soaps, deoderants, lotions, tie hair up to reduce hair product getting in the tub. I think this is one of the easiest ways to reduce slime and foam. And this greatly reduces the amount of time you spend fiddling with your water. Our kids don't get in without a shower...period. But we also have a circulation pump and I think this does help very much. I'm sure you'll get all the help you need here and that water will be crystal clear. Hey, someone said something about using baking soda and a rag to clean the waterline? On our first fill, we didn't think to wipe it out or rinse it out before hand, so then after, we realized that at the waterline there was a film. We didn't use any chemicals to deal with it as we didn't know what if anything we could use and figured we'd just wait til the next water change to clean the tub. Anne
  17. Thanks that does help! So, if we add 2 1/2 tsp of MPS after each use, then we'd add half that (1 1/4tsp ) in dichlor, correct? If I'm understanding this wrong, let me know. I know we add that amount of dichlor once a week and it brings it to the appropriate level. Anne
  18. Well, I guess I just asked the question in the title. We won't have more MPS shock for a few days and we'd still like to use the tub. If we can't get some MPS from our friend, can we use chlorine after each use and how much? I know a few do use chlorine after each use and have said it dissipates before your next use so you don't smell the heavy fumes from it. Is this true? Anne
  19. Congrats on your purchase! We love our Flair! I think with the warranty, the great thing is that it has the same "no fault" heater with warranty that the HS models do and the same quality pumps and general "guts" and insulation. So, you know you're still getting a great quality tub. And if you've got a great dealer, you're in the berries! As for the control panel? It really isn't difficult to figure out at all. Like Mac said, 5 minutes is all it takes to figure it out. And the guys who delivered it showed us how to use it. The manual shows how to work everything in plain english as well. We have been really happy with the ease of use and care. Only a small amount of chlorine once a week(which I know some say isn't enough, but hasn't been a prob for us) and shock after each use. We cleaned the filter for the first time the other day, 3 weeks after set up and it was amazing how much junk had been caught in there! We just hosed it out and we were ready to go again! I have not complaints so far. We love it and have no regrets or 2nd thoughts about our choice. I think you got a little better deal than us. What colors did you choose? Anne
  20. I'm all for shopping around to find the best deal. We were lucky to have a dealer who quoted us a saleprice during a dale they were having, and then she actually ended up basically throwing the covercradle, and ozonator in for fee in the end. So, we were happy. You want to get the best you can for the price you pay. Anne
  21. Thanks, this makes a lot of sense. I'm not too concerned about the clarity of our water. We've used our tub every night for 3 weeks straight and the water is still crystal clear. I'm sure some of the extra filters is marketing more than necessity. What I'm thinking is the more filters you have, the higher the cost to replace every 2 1/2 years. That's a lot of savings there. I guess time will tell. My parents just ordered the HS Jetsetter and it will arrive on Friday, so we will be able to compare over time with their filtration. Again, thanks for the explanation! Anne
  22. I'm confused about the difference in filter effectiveness and whether it really matters all that much. Our spa says it filters 65 sq. ft. Is that per minute, per day, per hour? What? And then what does "no bypass filtration" mean? Anne
  23. Are these any better? They were taken this evening so you can see the lights a little better. It's not great, but you get an idea. These photos really don't do the lighting system justice. And since the lighting component was replaced, we've really gotten to enjoy using them and having a different color each night, or if the kids are in the tub, we loop the colors. It's fun. We were spending at least an hour in the tub each night and now my hubby is only wanting to go in for 30-45 mins, where as I could still be in there for an hour or longer. With my chronic pain, it just feels so good to be in there. I didn't get enough time in there this evening so my neck and shoulders still hurt. Maybe I should get back in there now, although it's getting late. Hmmm. Well, that is the beauty part of having a spa, you can get in whenever you want! Anne
  24. Well, you've asked for pics, here they are. The lighting doesn't really show in these pics, but tonight I'll get some good ones. Anne
  25. Hottubsparatings.com Whatsthebest-hottub.com or Google these names. That's where I got my info and it helped me decide on a brand. It is quite dizzying, isn't it? After a while I was so stressed about picking a hottub, that I was considering not getting one. But we are happy with our choice most definitely. It's not the top of the line in the hot springs lines, but it is a good quality tub and in our budget. I guess in the end it's about getting the best quality, "comfiest on your bum" tub within your budget. Anne
