  1. I have just installed an inground vinyl swg pool. I'm looking for suggestions, pros or cons, either way. My decision is whether or not to cover it and winterize, or leave it open and run pump 8 hours/day or so. Please help/advise.
  2. UPDATE.. Next morning after a night where I did nothing but sleep, water again looking blue/clear. There is a slight hint of a greenish hue, but it looks much better again. Would either of your potential causes self resolve over night like this? I am heading out today in search of a more complete test kit. The only thing the poool folks gave me was the basic pH/chlorine 2 test kit. From my readings here i'm gonna need TA, phosphates, metals, et al. Thanks for your input.
  3. Opened 16x32 rectangle, salt water pool about a month ago. Had everything just right after about a week when we got rain. You see, the land around the pool was not yet graded and the 4 inches we got that day (yup, in one day) washed muck brown muddy water into the pool. After 2 weeks of floc and vacuum to waste, i ended up this morning with crystal clear water. All seemed unbelievably perfect. I had gotten out nearly all of the mud except for some traces here and there on the bottom. My salt system was reading low, 2400ppm and the chlorine was nearly non existent after multiple vacuum to waste and backwash cycles. pH was high around 7.6. That is all i have at hand to test today. The problem came as when I added about 80 pounds of pool grade salt (from the retailer) and 2 gallons of liquid shock, also provided by the pool installer. After only a couple of minutes, the water seemed to be clouding up. After an hour the water was a strange green color. I don't believe it to be algae, but some sort of chemical reaction since it happened so quickly. I did brush the salt until it dissolved, which kicked up some tiny amount of residual mud and the salt which soon dissolved. At first I thought I had kicked up some mud thus causing the initial cloudiness, but it just keep getting worse until and hour later and the green result was noted. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Frank
