  1. Thanks for the reply. If there's a next time I'll probably go the bleach option because of the expense. Does this also take care of the clarifying because a 1 litre bottle of that is very expensive too. I will definately get the stabilizer because I'm having trouble keeping the chlorine levels up where they should be. Anyway the pool looks great this morning with very little if any sediment on the bottom. I guess most of it stayed suspended, was killed and filtered through the system. Thanks again for the help.
  2. This looks like a great active forum for a newbie like me. We are renting a house for the next three years that has an inground tile and cement pool containg about 15,000 gallons. The landlord is paying to have the pool opened and closed each season and the rest is up to me. I want to maintain the pool myself to reduce costs. I've hit my first problem about five weeks after pool opening. The pool developed a light covering of algae on the bottom and sides very quickly over the course of about 36 hours. I brushed the whole pool and it came off easily but of course clouded the whole pool a light green. Visited the pool store today and was sold sodium hypochlorite and clarifier. I followed the instructions about 4 hours ago and the pool looks much better but still slightly greenish and the chlorine levels are very high. How long should I wait to vacum the pool (to waste) and then should replacing the lost water help to return the chlorine to a good level? I've been using the 3" chlorine pucks which haven't really brought the chlorine level up to where it should be according to the test strip. Can I or should I boost the chlorine level once a week or so with the sodium hypochlorite and then maintain with the pucks? Thanks for any help.
