  1. As a newbie... I have a few questions regarding the first post. 1 - leave control for air jets in open position while spa is not in use: why? 2 - Use tub if there is no chlorine or bromine reading: We usually put chlorine in after each use...so let's say we used it last night, put a tablespoon of Chlorine in and use it again tonight, the reading might be low but we still get in. I thought this wasn't really an issue?? Just make sure to put some in afterwards to kill the buggers! Thanks! Chantal
  2. It happened to me last week... It was foaming like crazy...I was scooping up the foam!!! I felt I was in bubble land. What I did... I shocked it. The next morning, I rinsed the filter. Lowered my Ph...and all was good. No more foam!
  3. I 'll know more tonight! Put some PH Down last night... we'll see when I get in tonight. Didn't put any chlorine last night. We'll see if that helps too.
  4. My nose has been sensitive for the last 3 days in our tub. The last two days, I even sneezed on several occasions. The smell (but it doesn't smell that much though...) gets to my nose immediately and I start to have an "itchy" nose... and then, I sneeze one or two times. I have to sit up straighter so that my face is not too close to the water. My ph is a bit high so I put some PH down in tonight. Could it be the PH?? We're using chlorine and I thought that I'm having a reaction since we have a pool. It's not the same "smell"... it's hard to describe. Advice anyone? Chantal
  5. I know this is a personal preference question... Last night, I took a quick shower after the tub cause I was kind of paranoid BUT, I oh so wanted to slip in bed...cause I was half falling asleep in the tub... I was ready to go in la-la land. So tonight, I'm thinking again of going in before bed, but the idea of having to step in the shower or bath.... is enough to wake me up a bit :-) We are always in the pool and we never shower afterwards...isn't it close to the same? I know you skin is kind of more dry and all... but is it that bad? Also, we put our chlorine in after we go in. Chantal
  6. Yep, we got those instructions from our spa dealer. We got our water tested and our PH was a bit high (but not too much). I had to purchase the PH Down & the Metal Guard (we have hard water - no water softener yet). We decided to go the Chlorine way since we already have a pool and are used to it. All is good!! We LOVE it! Did I say WE LOVE IT??? I went in around 7:30 tonight...and planning to go back just before bed!!! I think this will be part of our daily life from now on! Chantal
  7. UPDATE: It's hooked up, and all is fine! EVEN THE LIGHT BULB IS STILL GOOD! haha I just went to a Beachcomber dealer to get filters and he couldn't believe the deal we got. They're worth almost 6k brand new! Pretty happy! By tomorrow night, we should be soaking away! Chantal
  8. No, it's not the shine that worn off. It's scale. I was able to remove it where it's lighter. The shine is 100% on the tub... never been outside in the sun, etc. Thanks! Chantal
  9. Thanks!! I thought about that but I wanted to try full strenght vinegar first....it does remove some of it. I guess I need patience and some scrubbing effort I won't stop until I'm successful!! haha Thanks again. Chantal
  10. Hi there, We just purchased a used hot tub and I'm doing in best in removing some old scale lines around the tub....keeping in mine that the seller has been moving his tub for the last 3 years without plugging it in!! It's pretty much set in at this time. I tried water & vinegar (1:1), I tried Windex (Spa company said it worked....), I tried Hertel, and I finally I used CLR (diluted a bit with water). I've scrubbed & scrubbed & scrubbed.... seems like it's going away and then, as soon as it dries up - it comes back!! Just like magic! Tonight, I will give pure vinegar a try (the more acid the better it seems)!! This is haunting me night & day... Hopefully, someone will have another suggestion!! Chantal
  11. Thanks Roger!! We're hoping that it will work...but we're also prepared to have some repairs too! But still hopeful that all will be ok!! Thanks for your help! Chantal
  12. I found a manual online (dated of 2002). I will contact Beachcomber directly to see if they would have anything for my model (manufactured in 1999 - purchased in 2000). Thanks!! Chantal
  13. Good afternoon, I'm new to this board and I have to say...there's SO MUCH information on this site!! It's really great. I'm from Ontario Canada. I've been reading several posts on this board for months now...trying to figure out what to purchase, etc. It seems like we might have gotten an awesome deal! We purchased over the weekend a used hot tub - a 2000 Beachcomber 520. The seller used it for 3 years only and then got divorced, moved the tub 2+ times in the last 3-4 years and never set it up (cause he knew he was moving on a temporarily basis). Anyhow, they (he & his fiance) didn't think they would use it so decided to sell it. They were asking $1,000 and were garanteeing it's functionality or money back. It's in a good shape...never spent a winter outside (was in the house). The color is still bright (green), etc. Yes, there is some dust/sand & stuff around the jets and the drain...but nothing major. We got it for $500.00!! Woohoo! So now, the electrician will come & do the work needed...hopefully all will be well when we started it up! Here are my questions. We were considering contacting a Beachcomber distributor and having a specialist come on site to start it up. I just spoke to a local Spa dealer and said that to his knowledge, we don't need that as it's "fairly" a simple process. Question 1: Any recommendations on this first thought? By talking with her, I decided that the Chlorine system would be best as we're used to it with our pool. We never had a reaction to our pool, it's easier & it's cheaper. Question 2: Are my thoughts on Chlorine exact? Here's the process I was thinking & recommended by many to do: 1- Flush/Clean the pipes. Use the shop vac to suck up most of it. Then fill up the tub & use a Whirlpool Rinse (the stuff you use when you close your tub). Let it run for 2-3 hours and then drain. 2- Take out the jets/drain and clean them with water & vinegar (there is a bit of build-up on them). 3- Clean the tub with the spa stuff. Then, use the shine/wax stuff (forgot the name) and do the whole tub. 4- Put in new filter. Fill the tub & let it run for 24hrs (run = with jets or without???). 5- Bring a water sample to have it diagnosed (we have hard water). 6- Purchase & use the stuff recommended and start it up! Is this about right?? Thanks! Chantal
