  1. A few people have suggested I replace the DE system with a Sand filter. I'm not totally opposed to this solution. A Hayward Sand filter + 300lbs sand + installation will likely cost me $500 or more. Things are a little tight in this neck of the woods, with a daughter starting college in 2 months I am on a tight budget. I don't know if replacing the grid will be a cheaper solution. I'll need to continue my search, while cleaning the pool DAILY!
  2. My DE filter is approx 15 years old. The grids are original. Over the last few years I've notice more and more small dirt particles returning into the pool. This year I can't keep up with the amount of dirt. So...... What is the life of a grid? Could my problem be not enough DE (although I can't seem to get my pressure below 10 psi regardless of the number of backwashes). My filter is an American Products Model #:584090 They are no longer in biz. How could I replace the grid with the company gone? Considering the age of the filter should I consider replacing the entire unit?
